Software freezes when I try to add an Elation Opti RGB

Hello,

I recently purchased Compu Live and the corresponding USB-to-DMX converter box. I also bought some sweet Elation Opti RGB LED cans that I plan on controlling with this software.

Thus far, though, I have been unsuccessful. When I try to add the LED lights using the steps described in the Instruction Manual (add a new Page & select the light from the library, etc.), I get all the way to the last step and then the computer freezes. The hour glass icon just sits there, and eventually I'm forced to reboot.

Does anyone have an idea as to why this is happening? I'm using Windows 7 32-bit, could that be the problem? Everything I have read thus far indicates that it should work fine with Win7.

I am using the "Sept 29 2009" version of Compu Live 2006, which I downloaded from Elation's web site.

Thanks in advance for any help. Smiler

Anyone? Please help... If I can't get this to work I'll need to find a new solution and return Compu Live - which I'd hate to do. Frowner

Wendy,
It may be a problem with the installation of the software. Please uninstall the software, go to your (C: ) Drive and delete the SL2006 folder and then try reinstalling the software. When you renistall the software make sure your DMX interface is NOT connected. After the software installs go ahead and restart your computer and after it boots up connect your interface. It should be installed properly and it should pick up your interface. Let me know how this works out. Good luck Smiler

Thanks so much RC, I will give that a try.

I don't know if it matters, but when I installed the software I didn't put it into the default directory- I instead installed it into Program Files.

I'll follow your advice and let you know what the result is.

Thanks again!

Always allow the software to install to the default directory. Let us know if you still need help.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Jingles, it might be worthwhile for the software installer to not offer the option of installing it elsewhere- or at least to warn that it may not function properly, if that is a risk of doing so.

Most programs default to within the Program Files directory (and personally, this is where I like to keep my applications), so it didn't seem weird or unconventional to me to switch it to that location.

Having said that... I am very happy to hear that a reinstall may fix my problem! Big Grin Looking forward to giving it a whirl tonight. Thanks again. Smiler

also when you installed the software did you download the file from our website or did you have a installation disc? If you downloaded it is always suggested that you extract the .exe to the desktop and then launch the installer. That is a known culprit of small issues aswell.

Initially, I used the installation disc. But when that yielded the problems above, I installed the newer version from the web site (which still had the same problems).

I can't remember if I extracted the .exe to the desktop last time, but I'll be sure to do so this time, thanks!

Thanks!

I do have one question (although this is unrelated to Compu Live). Does Elation have 3D CAD models of the Opti RGB lighting fixtures? We're looking at getting some custom cases made, and that would help a lot in the design process for the road cases. I looked on their web site but didn't see anything.
