I have a weird problem with one of my design spot 575s it is the 7th one in the chain of fixtures, i am also using a opto branch4, what happens when this fixture is powered on the front screen is frozen and the fixture stays at a weird home position, now when i power down the fixture and disconnect the mic cables, and power it up with out the mic cables connected and starts up fine and when i plug my cables back in it works fine. what is causing this problem?

I am trying to eliminate sending my fixture in for repair and waiting 2 weeks for it cause i use my fixtures 4 times a week i am hoping i get the right answer i need to fix it myself.

How many total Design spot 575e's are you using?

Also, you should not be using Mic cable with these lights. You need to pick up DMX DATA cable before you start any show.

I am using a total of 12 design spot 575's and 6 575 washes. WHERE on the manual does it say not to use mic cable's on these lights? I am using all monster cable Studio Pro 1000 Microphone Cable, whats wrong with that? Ive been using mic cables for years and no problems till now. It is the 7th one in the chain out of 18. Something is shorting out in the fixture and i need to know what. It has been happening 5 days in a row.

well it has been proven that regular or any type of mic cable cannot porperly support the DMx data signal 100% so there fore u are more prone to glitches esp. if ur cable run os over 100 feet which sounds like yours could be. even if you use a dmx terminator or not poor signal lines can happen if you use the wrong cables. anyways that is my take on it. peace! jingles. p.s. check out the accu cable.

Hi Luis,
Yes you are absolutly correct. Not to use microphone cable is not in any of our user manuals. I requested they add that to all our manuals here on forward.
Using the best microphone cable is still not good for your lighting system.
This is a DMX standard.

Please refere to this website. This website explains all of the DMX-512 standards.
http://www.usitt.org/standards/DMX512_FAQ.html#FAQ_06

But in reference to your problem, I talked with my technician, and he would recommend removing the plate with the display screen and making sure that the ribbon cable is securely connected to the fixture.

Then try it out again.
