I would like to possibly purchase two Design Spot 300e's for projecting gobos on a rear curtain. The problem is that the stage is only 16 feet deep. I know the 300 pro is variable up to 41 degrees. However, I just need a set wide angle. Does the 300E have optional lenses larger than 20 degrees?

Just wanted to clarify something. The zoom on the DS300 Pro is 16-25 Degrees, not 16-41 degrees. The beam with the frost filter on full and zoomed out to 25 degrees makes the beam 41 degrees then. This means gobo projection is only useful from 16-25 degree range, no 25.1-41 degrees.

Yes I realize the 300E is only 21 degrees. However, the 300 pro goes to 41 degrees with it's optics if I read correctly. I only need a really wide lens so I was hoping that there was wide angle lens option for the 300E.

No, I meant to say that the DS300 Pro only goes to 41 degrees with the frost filter on. That means gobos would be useless. The actual zoom range is 16-25 degrees. Optically, it can do 41 degrees, but needs the frost filter to do it. I don't think Elation has a lens for a DS300 Pro to make its zoom range 16-41 degrees. The fixture just physically isn't big enough.

For example real quick, a VL2500 has a zoom range of 19-42 degrees. A VL2500 is about the size of a DS1400E which has a zoom range of 12-32 degrees or the same zoom range roughly. A DS1400E is 500mm long in the head. A DS300 Pro is 376mm long. The zoom train is what takes up the most space. CMY, color wheels, shutters, and gobo wheels (particularly non rotating ones) take up next to nothing compared to a zoom train.

The other thing that leads me to believe this is it mentions, "Variable Beam Angle 16 – 41 degrees" on the DS300 Pro page. "Motor driven Variable Zoom 16 to 25 Degrees" is what the page says about zoom on the same page. If it had different lensing options, it would read something like "Motor driven Variable Zoom 16 to 25 Degrees or 32 to 41 Degrees, Lensing Dependent".

However, it would be a nice feature to see trickle down into smaller, less expensive products. I would only use DS300 Pros in short throw situations mainly, so being able to swap outer lens to another lens to get a larger beam would be nice or drop in lens like the DS250. Or take the DS575E from 15-30 degrees to say 25-40 degrees for short throw applications. It is something you only really see on Mac 2Ks and the VL3000 line, wash fixtures only. *wink wink, nudge nudge John and James*
