Major problems with Magic 260Go ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()
hi, Im in a band and we have two of these boards. problem 1) Its programmed and working for months or weeks, then we will arrive at a show and it will have nothing in it. No scenes, no shows, no fixtures. No one has touched it and its been in my possession the whole time. we just turn it off at the end of a show and put it in its box which goes home with me in my car. Then we will show up at a show (usually a wedding) I will plug it in...and nothing is there. 2) BOTH of them had this happen recently (different shows and since we had a back up I never got around to reprogramming the 1st one that had an error until now) and BOTH of them the encoder 2 isnt responding. Ill go to add a fixture, get to the menu where is says 1 and no fixture selected. Encoder 1 works and changes that number but encoder two doesnt at all. This is the same on BOTH boards? What the heck is going on? One of the boards ive had to have serviced for a bad encoder 2 before and now the problem is back. And we have had the "show up at a gig board is empty" problem at least three times now. (which is why I had to buy the back up board so we would have a light show at a wedding right after the other stopped working right) I assumed someone messed with it the first time it happened but now thats impossible because its happened so often? the best guess I have is there is a memory battery in there and there is some kind of short where its leaking power? But again on both boards? I cant understand it. Im not rough with them. THey dont go in the trailer, I take them home with me personally and we NEVER use the encoder 2 once its programmed. I I simply use encoder one to scroll through my programed shows and the buttons to select them. Any help or idea whats going on? Im very close to dumping these and moving to a different option.

I'm on my second M260. The first one was so bad it had to be replaced rather than repaired. The second one is better than the first, but it too has a habbit of losing fixures. I have not experienced the exact problems you have, but I never go to a gig without take the computer so that I can reinstall the fixtures and the scenes. Too often I have to reload something or another to get it to work correctly. I've kept my fingers crossed that it won't lose its setting during the show. So far, so good. The M260 is a great unit in theory. I'm praying they come up with a firmware revision that makes it stable.

Yikes that doesnt sound good. I was hoping this was something that wouldnt be so bad, but it looks like im going to have to get these fixed and sell them and go with another option. This board was great in theory I dont know why it hasnt worked in application. :-(
