I've just added a uni pak 2 and a motor to control a mirror ball. I've added a page with the unipak.ssl. I've been able to change directions of the rotation through the DMX output, but can't seem to change the speed or turn it off altogether. I'd really like to turn if off when I'm not using it. The manual says, once it gets below 40% on the dimmer it's basically off. Any suggestions?

Is there a new profile for the UNI PAK II?

I've tried both verions of the SSL April, Dec 21, 2007 updates of Compu Live. I see it in the output window and in the 3D viewer and it seems to work in both as I slide the dimmer on the page. Maybe the setting are wrong on the dimmer pack itself. The address is set to 168, swith is off, dimmer limit 100 and preset is zero.

OK! I tried plugging a par56 into the other power socket with the motor in the other socket. It stopped and the dimmer control works, but the minute I pull the par56 off it starts back up again. I guess I need to find a way to terminate the other power outlet for it to work right

are you sure the pck is not on switch? also check the motor settings if there are any at all. also you could try just leaving in a 3 prong adapter in the other socket. let me know wassup. sincerely,

Guess what, this is not going to work for you.
All dimmers have a small amount of output voltage enought to keep the mirror ball spinning even though you don't have DMX signal to it.
As of now your mirror balls will keep spinning.
We are working and have been working on a solution for all our dimmers, but nothing has been released as of yet.
I am not aware of any dimmers in the market that will not do this.
I would say try back with us in about 2 months to see if we have the solution for it.

Well, after pluging in a PAR56 in the other outlet, It did stop and I could control it with the dimmer. But, when I unplugged the PAR56, it didn't start up until I moved the dimmer slider.

UPDATE: I was playing around with th output and I did get it to stop. Just not quite sure what I did to get it to stop.

Dimmers do have a voltage when not on. Mine CD80 can be as high as 98 volts. What i do when i have a issue like this is build a dummie load into the device that you are using. I use a small 7 watt light bulb twofered to the load. in your case the motor. The resistance of the lamp in enough to dump the ghost load from the dimmer, and stop the motor. I just hide the light bulb or tape over it so that you can not see it when the dimmer is on. It works great.

JHDD by pluging the lamp into the other socket you have done exactly what i was talking about. All you need is a little resistance to dump the goast voltage. when the dimmer is at 0 the motor will stop because the par 56 is soaking up the voltage with the fillament just like a 300 watt resistor i just like to use a smaller lamp so it is not part of the show.

Just a quick heads up, you aren't suppose to run motors off of dimmers, not good for motor or dimmer. Reason being is motors need AC to work. Dimmers chop the AC sine wave, making it more DC then AC. Fine for lamps, but not things like motors, fluorescents, black lights, etc. It might work and you may never have a problem. However, it could also end up damaging your motor and/or dimmer. Using it for just on and off, you most likely will get away with it for a while before something happens. I know, because I have done it myself before. Just food for thought.

ETC makes Sine Wave Sensors now. They actually don't chop the wave and you are able to dim stuff like the things listed above with no ill effects. Really neat when you think about it. Problem is, they take up the space that 4 2.4k Sensors take up, and also cost a fortune.

The DP has a switch setting and a dimmer limit and preset. When the switch is on there's no DMX, when it's off you can send DMX. There's a HTP slider on the pack, but that's a manual thing. This pack is up about 30' on a truss. So, I don't go messing around much with the settings. But, if I have a small light, I'll need to hide, I guess that will work. Very small motor for the mirror ball, which I have stopped a couple times(even without another light plugged in), changed direction, speed etc. using the outputs on Compu Live.
