Hi folks.
I am considering purchasing a Magic260 controller and I have some questions. This may seem dumb, but on reading the manual it seems to imply that a scene can only contain one type of fixture, and each fixture must be set the same. Can I save scenes where different fixtures have different values? For instance, Scanner1 would be blue, Scanner2 would be red, and DMX Moonflower would be green? If so, how would I accomplish this? I am planning to use Chauvet MinSpots, as well as some other LED DMX Effects. I am OK with using Generic profiles and forgoing the built in presets if need be. However, as I am a programmer and good with text files or even binaries, is there a way I can create my own profiles? If so, is there a spec or some type of instructions available? Thanks in advance for any help! |

Hi Davey,
you misread something.. of course you can use different fixtures and values to generate one scene. Keep reading the manual in the recording a scene section. Regarding creating profiles.. this is also possible through a software thats included with the console when you purchase it. http://www.elationlighting.com/pdffiles/magic260-setup109.zip When you load this program you will see a button called Fixture edit. This small option allows you to create your own profile and load it into the console. Best regards, John J Lopez Elation Professional |

Hi! Thanks a bunch for your reply. I am not sure what I am reading wrong. Let me post the relevent manual section for reference:
Ok, I understand why in Step 2 it says all fixtures should be of the same type, because you are setting values for all those fixtures, and their channels would conflict. But when I get to Step 5, I have only set one set of values for one group of like fixtures. A) Do I, before moving to step 5, turn off the fixtures I just set, turn some more on, and continue to build the scene? IOW, if I turn the fixture button back off, will the scene data I just set for the fixture remain? B) Do I set one set of fixtures, save it to a scene, and then set another set and save it? IOW, does the save function wipe out the previous scene, or is it additive? C) Or is there some other method I am missing? Thanks again for your help! This message has been edited. Although this post is somewhat old, I thought I would reply in case it helps others. I'm a new owner of the Magic 260, and this was unclear in the manual as well. The manual is rather terse in a number of areas. I think the easiest answer here is that you can set all your fixtures of any type for a particular scene. I believe the manual is suggesting that you can select multiple fixtures of the same type to set simultaneously. Once you have them set how you want, you deselect the buttons for those fixtures and move on to the next fixture or set of fixtures and do the same thing. Only those fixtures that are selected (LEDs blinking) in the FUNCTION area of the 260 are being set at the time you adjust the values. After all of your fixtures are set, then you can save the scene. I noticed that you don't have to have any FUNCTION buttons active to save the current scene. mike duranevents.com == Duran Events, LLC duranevents.com |

I had the same concern about only fixtures of thesame kind; I am going to try it with multiple types now.
Thanks for this post, Another question: The Magic260 didnot come with the Quadgem fixture preloaded. Where can I get it? Instructions? |
