I just can't get the hang of creating scenes and what not with my new myDMX software.

I am using 2 T-bars on either side of a screen for projections with 4 LED panels, 2 techno strobes, and 1 color strip on each.

Anyone have any tips, suggestions, or links to better tutorials than those already on YouTube on how to program?

I have everything dialed in, but I am having issues with creating scenes & what not like I did on the Operator 192.

Been using the Operator 192 for last 5 years on a rig with scanners & led par cans for live bands & DJs, but just this year I bought new rig with DMX software for this particular monthly deck party with 2 DJs & a VJ.

Some ??s off the top of my head:

How do I record a blackout?

Can I group certain channels where it will control multiple faders in the channel window or do I have to scroll and change each one individually each time?

Why do some of the fixture channels say "Free" as their description?

Fixture profiles - why are there different modes of profiles (with equal channels)?

For Midi Control, which I think I really need to get the control like an Operator 192 - I have to attach the controller to the laptop, and then assign what I want, right?

1: You don't record anything. You make it. Make a scene wiht no values. Save it. You can do this as simple as making a NEW scene, calling it BLACKOUT and saving it. Done. Time to move on with that topic.

2: Why do some fixtures say "Free"? Ask the company that makes the light.

3: Can you group certain faders? There is a "yes" method and another "yes" method. I only recall one method. If you shift-click(or maybe it's option-click) after moving a channel on a fixture, the rest of the same fixtures will move the same on that channel together. Definately very handy. Say, in my case, I have 8 Mega Bar 50's, each individually addressed. I can easily change the dimmer value by using this method on all 8 just by snagging any one lights dimmer by holding shift or option(Again, can't remember which) and then keep moving. Remember, move FIRST before holding the modifier! This only works with identical fixtures. I can't group my 64 LED Pros, my Mega Panels and my Mega Bars together to do this.

4: MyDMX is very much like the DMX192. You set your values, save it and there you go. The thing is that the DMX192 is 1-step per scene, while MyDMX can hold thousands of steps per scene, so it can therefore handle complex movements when using moving yoke fixtures and scanners. It can also handle complex washes and other FX easily.

I don't think it's the fact that you're DMX knowledgable. I think your problem might be is you're under the gun, in a rush and don't have the time to learn the product, or for whatever reason, you're having a hard time wrapping your head around it.

Use the 3D Visualizer, set your stage in it at least to the point where you can see your lights working in the environment, even if it's a generic set up. Make your universe, set your fixtures, then start programming. Make a scene, dial-in your configuraiton, and you're good. Repeat as necessary.

Thanks, Chris. I will take your info and apply it.

I only say "record" because I also use a Show Designer 3 at another freelance job....but I realize I am "making" a scene with myDMX.

And yes, I am under the gun and in a rush...

"Remember, move FIRST before holding the modifier! " <-- not sure what this means

John

Sorry I just assumed that someone on this board would be knowledgable about the subject.

Move first before holding the modifier:

Let's say you have 8 64 LED Pros(ADJ fixtures, an LED can with RGB mixing). And you want to change ALL the dimmer values at once. Grab any one fixture's dimmer channel and move it. Anytime after you start moving, you can then press the modifier, which is either OPTION or SHIFT, which will then cause all 8 of those lights' dimmers to move in unison.

Make sense now?

Might want to take this discussion to the ADJ forum. I use ADJ and Elation Products exclusively whenever possible(I do have some none ADJ and Elation products though, sometimes these companies just don't have what I'm looking for)
