ok so had my first minor heart attack here at the club tonight. was clickin around, just doing real minor stuff, wanted to switch from my fixtures tab to pages tab and compu FROZE, and EXITED. :-(

needless to say the whole club went black, then as im clicking frantically to get compu to load back up, the lights fell back into their dummy modes with sound active and random crap. totally wrecking the look at a upscale lounge. AHHH!

luckily it only lasted maybe 5 seconds before i got the regular light scene loading back up and fading in.

but.

is there any suggestions for setting up the lights so they have a fallback mode or something? like if the computer freezes/program panics.....

ideas?

Hello,I see your question was a couple of days ago,and I don't work for Elation,I'm just another LD. Anyway, can you use a DMX Solo as a back up?If you leave it in your DMX loop & save a "good" scene,it may be a great back up.....????
Good Luck,

What if you programmed some scenes into Easy Stand Alone. Then you could call up one of those scenes until the PC was back up.

yes this is a feature that comes within the dongle itself. but see if ur running compuware as compuware and if compu craps out i really don;t know how your are expected to get into easy stand alone while ur comp is rebooting compu. if you want you can check out the manual for easy stand alone.
COMPU MANUAL
actually there might be a way to save scenes in easy stand alone but im not sure how just yet but i can find out for ya. which version dognle do u have? like what color is it and does it have DMX IN and OUT? PEACE! JINGLES.

ok jeremy i found it. if u put the install disc that came with ur dongle and u install the easy stand alone progrma the window looks like this.

install that and then once it is all done and you open up the progrma it will look like this.

then add your fixtures to the page almost like how you do it on compu and set a few scenes or steps and if u want to you can check to see how much steps you can store or how many kb u have left in the internal memory. hope this helps if u need anything else let me know. peace! jingles. p.s. wil try to knock out the manual for ya tonight. Wink

I've never used Easy Stand Alone but I thought it would be a solution to his problem.
I thought about using it to input scenes for focusing lights and lighting the stage during tear down when the computer wasn't up and running.

sounds interesting. would be nice if the dongle kicked into whatever preset was last left in it if it senses no PC signal.... think it can do this?

Hi level 10,

Right now, the way Compu Live is created, if your lap top freezes, the dongle keeps the last position on.
Which is pretty cool.

But as soon as you get your computer rebooted and then restart your computer, the computer resets everything to zero.. so at start up you will black out, however as soon as the program is up and running again, you can activate any scene you want.

I highly advise, that if you are doing a show, you use a good computer.. many people love to use a new lap top, then after some time, start loading a bunch of stuff.. this slows down the computer..and if your trying to run your light show.. you will have crash issues..
I also just found out that If you don't have a good virus blocker, you will have a lot of background junk working and slowing down your system.
