Dip switch dummy

I've been having a lot of problems with setting my dip switches, especially on the american DJ mega flash and other led washes too. The 10th dip seems to kick it into DMX signal mode but only magically when it wants to. Could this be a weak cable or is a start up procedure error?

One thing to remember is turn on the fixture and then adjust the dipswitches then turn the power back on.

Have you tried a splitter yet? If you have, you might have a bad solder joint somewhere that is causing the issue.

Also try like jingles said, set your dip switch settings with the unit off and then turn it on. As for DMX Mode and the 10th switch, what the 10th switch does is different for each fixture. Check your manuals to be sure of what it does. Dip switches 1-9 are always DMX address because if you add up 1-9 (1+2+4+8+16+32+64+128+256) it equals 511 and DMX only goes up to 512. Most fixtures are at least 2 channels, so you get the idea.

I dont know if this will help any but if you go here

http://www.look4ideas.com/tech...dmx_512_protocol.htm

At the bottom of the page is where you can click on and get a DMX address chart. Find the address you want and it shows you the dipswitch setting for both the US and Britain.

There is also a Iphone app and many DMX calculators online as well.

I hope this helps

One other suggestion would be to make sure your desk is powered up and sending data before turning on the fixtures. Some fixtures expect data at power up (Le Maitre' Radiance and High End Color Pros come to mind) or they don't respond properly.
