Hey James,

I run the 2006 version of Compuware (blue interface) with scanners and moving heads and have been waiting for a tutorial on how to create my own scenes/patterns aside from the ones that are included with the software. Am I able to create patters that don't require all fixtures of a single page to always be the same gobo and color?

The second programming feature I'd very much like to master is how to access features of a fixture that's part of a page with others of the same type. If that didn't make any sense to you either, here's a quick example that a mobile dj would find useful...

Let's suppose I'm using Compuware to control 6 High End Trackspots and want to gain control of ONE scanner to use as a WHITE follow-spot for the first dance. The only problem is that we want to have the remaining 5 scanners to be blue with a "stars" gobo. Am I able to do this?

Thanks!

I think it would be nice to see a short tutorial on each of the features in the edit window for scenes. ie. easystep, easytime, live control, DMX control.
I use some of them but not sure what all of them can do.

Hey Jingles - thanks for the great vids. (BTW: you got a cold or something, I hope by now you're feeling better) How about a training video giving a bit more detail about fixture grouping. I've been all through the manual, spent hours in front of the software, and dug all around the forum, and haven't found any info. Am I the only one who wants to know how this feature works?

I'm trying to control a group of AmDJ Par64 LED's (The RGB, but not pro version). Among other fixtures, I've got 8. 4 on each side of the stage arrange vertically. I'm trying to program them to different colors in groups, but can't get stuff to respond the way I think it should. I believe its clearing a case of a product being superior to its operator! Any help would be appreciated.

LOL! ya i have allergies and i guess it comes through in the videos! lol. i got a way for you to individualy control the leds but not using the fixture grouping setting. it uses just 8 switches that u make. i can show you how at a later date, sincerely,

James,
I am new to the lighting world, just
received the Compu 1024 EC. Have been working with
the software prior to the dongle interface. Got the stage and all of the lights done and in place.
Now I am ready to connect the dongle is it a plug and play device to the computer. Other than the usual and obvious things like drivers and dip switch settings. Is there any other things to look out for. By the way any kind of training video beginners and advanced would help in putting a stage show together would help.I would
even pay for a class at a local music store. I live in New Orleans La.

oh ya. if the lights are addressed and the drivers are installed properly and you hook it up and the dongle says "PC" you should be good to go. as far as classes in your area. ill have to look into that. sincerely,

Hey Jingles,

Been using what I've pulled off the forum for the LED's and gotten a little further. Learned about the effect generator along the way - great feature. Anyway, you mentioned something about creating switches to control fixtures individually - wondering if I could get some more info in this area.

On another note, perhaps these two ideas are linked. Is it possible to create user-defined switches such as the one automatically generated for fixtures (I.E. moving lights come pre-programmed with various motion switches, kind of like switches within a switch.) Can I create these sort of things myself?

As always, thanks for all the help - the videos rock. (The boss's should consider putting links to them somewhere on the elation website, for those who don't read forums...or are still shopping the software, they're a great selling-point.)

Hi Jingles,

I'd like to see some "beginning-to-end" tutorials.

I'm pretty much at a loss with this software (when I can keep it from crashing... I'm downloading the Feb 2008 patch/version now and confident this one will solve my problems)

Here's my background...

I've been a software developer for 25 years. I've been a musician for 20 years. I've been performing on stage for 10 years and have worked behind the scenes of live performances for 5 years.

I'm new to actually working with DMX (which might be part of the problem) since one of the people that worked at the theater where I perform usually did this.

No matter how hard I try, I just can't get much of anything accomplished with the software.

I am remodelling my home and putting DMX LEDs everywhere to control the lighting/moods of the rooms. I just picked up my first 30 Chauvet COLORstrip lights and have a dozen or so other American DJ DMX LEDs.

So my needs are pretty simple. Program some "shows" that would run for 24 hours that would slowly change the colors of the lights from room to room. With the idea of changing the "shows" based on my moods and/or if I'm entertaining, etc.

I've gotten Compu Live to change the colors of one of the American DJ 64B LED Pro lights by changing some on-screen sliders and that's about it Smiler

I can tell from my quarter century of software development that the software will be able to do what I want it to, but I can't find any training material/tutorials that will educate me on how to use it to achieve my goals.

I'm used to buying software this complex and then buying third party training books and
DVDS, yet I can't find anything like that.

How do most people learn how to use this software?

Jeron
