Hi,

I am a total newbie to DMX controlled lighting. I have just purchased a Operator 192 and I have several old-school ADJ rollers (DMX) and a several other lights that are not-DMX controlled, but sound-activated.

While I am waiting on the DMX101 DVD that John Lopez so graciously offered to mail me, I have a question.

Do I need some sort of Dimmer Pack or something to turn on and off the non-dmx lights? Right now I have them going into a power-strip, and i turn on and off the power strip during a show. I saw on Ebay some of the Dimmer Packs have DMX inputs - does that control the Edison plugs - allowing me to control my turning on and off my non-DMX lights thru the Operator 192?

Thanks for any input on this,

Rizzer

hey rizzer! welcome to the forums. what you are gonna need is a switch pack. what a switch oack does is turn your non dmx lights off and on through your DMX op. how it works is u have ur non dmx fixtures plugged into any one of the edison plugs on the unit u then assign the starting address that u want to control your lights with on the unit and then on your board u move the fader in most cases 0-127 will be off and 128-255 will be on. i recommend the elation CYBER PACK For your needs. i hope this helps. if not let me know. peace! jingles.

Thanks Jingles!

That seems to be exactly what I need. This model, the Cyber Pack, uses a midi signal to instruct it.

This generates a few more questions Smiler

A) Will my DMX Operator 192 generate the midi siginal to instruct the Cyber Pack?

B) Could i use something like the http://cgi.ebay.com/Elation-DP-415-4-Channel-DMX-Dimmer...QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
- which seems to be only DMX based (no midi)?

C) Could i use two Cyber Packs (or DP -415) in sequence, with one on each side of the stage (daisy-chain them)?

Thanks again for your help,
Rizzer

Jingles,

I do know midi and work with a lot of midi-based instruments and software. i will have to play with everything once i get the DVD from john and understand the DMX side of things. I'll let you know what i find out.

hi, John Lopez mentioned in Oct of last year (see first post in this thread) that he would send me out a few DVDs to help get me started using the Operator 192 I bought.

I never received them and am willing to purchase them if still available. My 192 is just collecting dust and i get sad every time I look at it...
