I know what you mean. I'm working on a shadowcast performance in a month. I'm staying strictly technical, keeping my obligations to sound and lights. They have props and set pieces to build, but the bottom line is the show won't happen without me. Since I'm not really into the content of the shadowcast performance(can't really say I enjoy the movie), it's work for me. I'm waiting on lighting direction from the director so I know what I have as a starting point. From there, I can plus it as I...

Hey len. I don't believe there are any Elation products with framing shutters. I know the moving head wash fixtures have beam shapers in them, basically a wash equivalent to a shutter. But as far as a hard edge shutter, there are no products that I am aware of.

Re: Crashing...Crashing...Crashing

I experienced multiple crashes yesterday while running a show. We use the Compu Live software in a church. Currently we are using it to run color wash LED strips, and elipsoidal Source 4 Juniors. During our first assembly, the software seemed to lose contact with the dongle (one of the green lights went out), and the only fix was to do a hard reset (unplug/replug) the USB dongle. This resulted in the all the lights going off then coming back up to the whatever scenes were active. In the...

Re: Looking for Par64 Replacements, sort of

Well, then I guess it comes down to, for my comparison purposes: What does the 64 LED Pro compare to as far as output. I think once I know that, I think that may ultimately make my decision. The director says she was pleased with the lighting I provided, so now the issue seems to be SOME color choices were too dark. So, maybe I don't need to get something better. But since I need to place 4 other fixtures for sure(because I hate them), and want to replace 2 others(to reduce power draw). I...

I'm in the same boat i'd like to see some info and vids on this, as i've speced out 48 of these and the DS wash 60 for a venue install, would like to use these insted of the ds575 and wash fixtures for reasons being power ratio and weight ratio. also would like to know if by chance elation might be making a wash fixture with the 5R bulb as that kinda made me wonder why they didnt come out with more fixtures than just the one, as ADJ brought out 2.

Re: LED fixture questions

If I had to guess, I would say it's a cost issue. I'm going from some R,G,B LED wash fixtures to brighter tri-LED RGB fixtures, mainly for the brightness of the fixtures I am looking at(Opti Tri Pars to replace my ADJ 64 LED Pros, which will be used to replace yet a different fixture). For me, the costs are reasonable. I'm not really into shooting wash lights into the crowd though. I think as more people become more light savvy, it will help steer this. This is something odd, but I'll post it anways. I recently acquired 4 ADJ Mega Bar 50's, and 4 Mega Panels. The Mega Bars still provide a somewhat "round" beam, at least in distance. Close up they definately wash wide. I had a bit of a time focusing these at a recent event. The Mega Panels, despite being rectangular, do provide a relatively round "beam". Yes, I know these are wash fixtures, but when you end up with a soft circle on the surface, it's rather strange to me. I know, the LED's...

Cool, thanks Jim. I really liked the theme of the video too which matches prefectly with the company. Its not anything new, just an evolution of something that has been around since the start of the moving light era. I would love to see more fixtures of this caliber, washes and fixtures with CMY and zooms for example. I am sure however the optics for a wash might be a little tricky. I would also love to see what, say, a 250w and 300w version of the lamp is capable of. At 250w, it should be...

"ding ding ding" we have a winner Wow thats all i can say...elation can do soo much with this fixture..ive already got my order in for 24 of them. yes having CMY and zoom would make this thee best fixture to have and use....even compared to the big boys, martin, clay, high end and so on. I'd like to see them make this into a dedicated wash and beam fixture... maybe not soo much the wash but having a beam fixture...as such as the ADJ version.

I would have to agree that a beam would be interesting. I thought about grabbing some DB 300s for on the deck shooting into the air stuff. Now I think I might wait to see if a Platinum Beam 5R comes out. Keeping all the lamps the same is important to me because it keeps things constant. My boss constantly yells at me for cross renting whole shows when I don't have enough in-house of whatever fixture I need to do the job. He wants me to use in-house and cross rent to supplement. Hi, The Specs in the user manual are correct, with one exception the light source is a CBT-90W not a CTB-90W. Many times the specs on the web are based on our pre-production models which is the reason for the discrepancies. Also, look at the Design Wash 60 LED as a good wash companion to the E Spot.

Re: How do I control the Pro Bar using MIDI?

hobson ·
Sorry for the confusion I added to the thread. I wasn't aware of this Pro Bar. This unit does have a regular midi input and a thru output (what comes in the in will be rebroadcasted out to another midi device if you want). You won't need any special hardware. It will respond to either DMX signals or midi note signals, but apparently not both at the same time - you've got to choose. On each of four separate channels the unit will do something when it recives a midi note on that channel...

NH, The Ideal situation would be to have a 19" rack opto near your Compu. Then a DMX branch 4 box style on the stage. Now you have amplification, protection and breakouts at the source, and break outs where your lighting is. I don't think you can ever have to many DMX outputs. Best regards,

I think you'll need to make a new forum area for "profile requests". Having properly working profiles will really be the difference between an easy or difficult show design. Worse case scenario, I'll just make new ones using the ADJ 64 LED Pro as a template. Fortunately, there are some "sanity savers" in Compu Show that tell me that I'm doing this all right. Right now, gotta bang out the bugs before I start programming my main show. I start programming that one in February. That starts with...

Re: Scenes from past shows

I have two ideas. First, why do you keep making new shows? Why not make a master show and then just use what you need to from that? I mean, I did that with MyDMX, and I plan to do the same thing with Compu Show soon for similar reasons. Just one BIG show file with lots of stuff in it. I do get why you don't want more than you need in the show file. Less confusion and less to deal with. The second one is to do as Jingles is suggesting, which would be to make your "mother of all shows", and...

Re: help with building a matrix

wheresjc ·
OK Here goes. As of the last beta of CompuShow I tested, the profile editor still did not allow for a fixture to have multiple R, G, or B slots. Therefor, you can patch a matrix with the full profile but the effects will only work for pixel 1. (Very few console manufacturers have this capability built in to their consoles as of yet.) Build a Matrix of 3 Channel RGB Units. It can be handy to open a 3 channel LED fixture profile in the PROFILE EDITOR and name it Pixel and save it as Pixel.

well 9 is just the middle number between 0 and 19, which are the dmx value ranges for the color snap.

Re: Elation DMX programmer

Well, I'm not up to speed on all Elation products. I'm having too much fun with Compu Show! I don't know. It seems a bit too limited in channels for me, so if you've got a rididly fixed system that uses less than 64 total channels, it seems like it would work. For a small club or a really simple system, it would probably be fine. The assignable joystick is the real cool feature, but so is the remote trigger for certain foggers, which helps save you from burning DMX channels.(usually just one...

Hey scrogers and welcome to the forums. I have a bunch of Opti Tri's myself that I use for theatre stuff all the time. Biggest reason I like the Tri stuff is no color shadows. I get a shadow of whatever color I am mixing vs 3 different shadows with standard LED stuff. Looks a lot more realistic for theatre. Other advantages include the obvious, no more gels, 16.7 million colors (4.3 billion with the Quads), no more lamps, a lot less heat on stage, low power, etc. Brightness wise, they will...

Re: Info/Experiences with Opti Quad Par?

Well, I can get the difference between a spot and a wash, but I am not really clear as to why an LED wash would be so diffuse compared to a conventional? It is because of the usage of multiple elements in an LED compared to a single element in a conventional?
Reply

Re: Info/Experiences with Opti Quad Par?

serraava ·
That is part of the reason. The other reason has to do with optic trains. To get an LED spot, you have to do some interesting things vs a lamp where you just need a refactor and some lens/es. But I have found that LED washes are even less defined then conventional wash fixtures. They also seem to drop off a lot faster towards the edges, so not as even a field. Again, has to do with more then one point sources. More sources towards the middle, brighter the middle. Less towards the edge,...

Re: Info/Experiences with Opti Quad Par?

I can sort of see what you're saying. Even if we focus the tri-LED's, we're focusing multiple tri-LED's into a field, which by default, is going to end up with a predictable pattern of brighter and darker areas. And this issue would be magnified based on distance to target, so it's not as simple as you just move something back and forth.(such as a lens for example or at least not just one). I would assume, perhaps incorrectly that a single very powerful LED source would work well with the...

Discharge moving head washes have a Fresnel lens in it that further help wash the beam of light into well... a wash. At least that is how I understand it. As far as a single point LED RGB fixture that color mixes that is quite an expensive thing to do. I know of maybe one or two that have done so and the fixtures cost a lot of money. We will get there though. Sincerely,

A local large sound and lighting company has a bunch of LED movers that can do color changing. I forget if these are wash or spot. I am betting that the fixtures behave somewhat like an LCD projector, in which a thin film screen is in front of the light source. Expensive? Yes, most definately.

Thank you for your report and feedback. We are still working to improve the dimming on the ELED Fresnell II - especially in the 150W mode. We will update the user manual as well thanks for pointing that out! Feedback on this fixture has been very positive thus far and while still yet not maybe "theatre" quality the fixture as a general white light stage wash and front key light is quite useful for broadcast, stage and architectural applications.

Re: Magic 260 for LED fixtures.

Absolutely! The M260 is feasible for any standard LED wash fixtures. There is only one limitation I can think of with respect to using an M260. It has 260 variable channels plus 4 On/Off channels. While you can control as many fixtures as you like with an M260, the number of discrete light settings you can send is 260 divided by the number of channels your fixtures use plus 4. So, for example, if your LED fixtures use 4 channels each, you can send 65 discrete fixture settings (plus 4 ON/OFF...
