You know, I looked all over the place in the new user manual and could not find a disclosure. Past user manuals had this, and It should be in the current user manual. Please read carefully the following preventive measures carefully: 1. Place a DMX insulator between interface and DMX fixtures (e.g. DMX branch 4, Opto Branch 4) in order to protect them both from any interference and from overvoltage. 2. We advise you to have an available spare RS485 driver IC. This is an 8 pin electronic IC...

Re: DMX Operator Pro and MIDI

crazzydrummer ·
Thanks John. I wish I could step up to the showdesigner, but at that point, I would just get the 1024FC and have the timeline ability. Basically, I am only running 8 channels of pars, 4 scanners, and 4-6 LED PARS's so both the software and the showdesigner 1 are way overkill for as little as I have. Plus, fundage is pretty low. So I guess we are back to the 3 questions: Can you select par scenes/chases independent to moving light scene/chases? Can they be selected this way with MIDI as well?

I have read that it the Mydmx software doesn't like to run in the background (let me know if that isn't true). We are triggering from Ableton Live and we have a live operator who is running that (contains harmonies, background guitar parts, etc). That brings up another point, can you trigger from a software program to the MyDMX on the SAME computer? I would hate to have to get another laptop just to run the lighting rig when we already have a Magic 260 or if the DMX Op Pro would fit out...

thanks everyone. I am going to really dig deep into the mydmx software tonight. I am fairly familiar with the compuware software so I hope it isn't to different. I would still like to have a couple questions answered about the operator pro though: Can you independently choose par scenes/chases from moving light scenes/chases? Is this the case with MIDI as well? If so, doesn't that give you thousands of combinations to choose from via simple midi notes? i.e. this par scene with this moving...

Re: Haze question.

ebaclights ·
You don't need Antari brand fluid. All fog/haze machines will tell you to use their brand of fluid. The truth is if you buy a good quality fluid thats been filtered, it will work just fine. In the case of your machine you want water based fluid. I get my fluid from http://www.froggysfog.com . They make very good fluid and have both fast dissipating and a "haze" fluid that will stay in the air a little longer. You will notice that the manual for the X-310 says to use Antari FLG fluid, DO NOT...

Yes, I read about that in the manual, and that's not what was happening. Basically it was as if the chase was running through 4 steps: Left Right Up Down (for ex.) if I didn't touch the joystick it would cycle through these steps. The effect I'm talking about happened when I accidentally bumped the joystick and instead of stopping the movement, it continued running the same chase in terms of speed but was now moving in the direction I pointed it in. And no matter whether I changed I changed...

Gines, Is it possible that a new unit right out of the box would need oiled? I am one of those who reads the manual from cover to cover. The cleaning and maintenance section of the manual makes no mention of anything other than frequent cleaning. It also states that there are no serviceable parts inside the fixture with the exception of the lamp. It is a good thing you brought this to my attention. Is there any documentation on opening the unit and oil points?

Re: Opto Branch

skote ·
I realize this is an old thread, but in talking with a pro lighting guy from Nashville last night, I've come to believe that both "tap" and "Elation_Pro" are incorrect about the Opto-Branch 4. 1. You CAN use the DMX Thru port to continue on to other DMX receivers, but standard DMX rules apply (no more than 32 devices on the line, terminate the last fixture on the link, etc). The splitter is just seen as a receiver on the line; nothing more or less. However, if something takes this line down,...

Re: Opto Branch

2. The manual gives every indication that there are only 4 isolators in the unit, not 8. Therefore, using both the 3-pin and 5-pin connectors from a single output actually amounts to using a DMX Y, which is not allowed by DMX standard. This *might* work but could potentially introduce issues. This is a good observation.. I am running this up the flag pole with our engineers. Best regards,

Re: New to lighting with DMX (STAGE SETTER 8)

serraava ·
Not many people know what DMX stands for, so don't feel bad about that. DMX is short for Digital Multiplexing (Yes, DMX cable is technically digital cable, compared to XLR which is analog). As for your programming issue, maybe walk us through step by step how you program a chase so we can see where the error is. If you are following the instructions in the manual, then maybe there is a typo/missing step/wrong step in the manual that could be corrected.

Thanks James, I think I get it. I'm not sure where I got the 32 from ... looking at the online manual for that I can clearly see it's 16 ... which is plenty. So to build on your explanation, if I turn on fixture button 1 and 2, then fader 1 is acting as a fader for channel 1 and 17 at the same time, correct? Is it safe to assume that fader one is actually designed to continually send out data on channels 1, 17, 33, 49, 65, 81, 97, 113, 129, 145, 161 and 177 and then the scanner buttons just...

Please, write an entire chapter on the audio analysis and anything to do with sound to lights. It's not adequately covered in the manual. One thing that would be nice is for the audio analysis to not reset every time you open it. If I change the sensitivity from automatic to manual and adjust the level on it, it would be nice if the settings would save and be there when I open the audio analysis the next time. I think Elation underestimates how important sound to light is on the software...

Re: DS 250 Internal Programming

Never mind,I played around with the fixtures. You can record 48 scenes (no steps). I did not see a way to set a fade time. The scenes can taken from any controller, one at a time, you have to sit next to the fixture and record the scenes by setting the scene with the controller and then getting into the edit menu of the DS250 to record it. You can only adjust the hold time of each scene. The manual shows exactly how to record the scenes to internal memory.

Just a few thoughts. I have 2 of these spots and they don't give me any problems, and I use them with the ADJ Software: MyDMX. First, this light has two operational modes: MANUAL(where you run it yourself) and DMX. Ensure you're in the right mode. That's your first step. MANUAL operation means that besides moving it on your own MANUALLY, you are also operating the dimming and colors on your own. That is manual operation. Chances are, it's just a serial port that has a generic mouse driver associated with it. I would say that if you're using a basic trackball, mouse, touch pad or any other controller that uses a typical 2-button mouse driver, you should be fine. Not a fan of trackballs myself, but I certainly see the advantage of a compact space. The rest of what you should need to know should be in the manual.
