So I am trying to make a final decision between the SD 2 or 3. I'm looking for preferences/ professional experience from anyone and any Elation personnel.

Besides the obvious extra universe you get what the 3, what are some of the more considerable improvements from the 2?

How easy/ which is easier to allow for multi scene and effect layering on the fly?

Is the 3 really worth the extra near $1,000?

Hi Lazer,

Welcome to forums.
The 3 is really worth the extra $1000.00.. keep in mind that both the 2 and 3 are 48 fixture consoles.. that being said the 3rd universe works as an extra output when needing some diversity.. but it can also be used to patch conventional dimmer channels.

The 3 gives you master fader, and Stop and Back buttons for your cue lists.
The Playback faders is really needed for layering and multi scene effects which you do not have on the 2.

on the 3 the encoder wheels work as enter buttons.. when adjusting values you simply press down on them for enter.

The 3 has a true effects generator where the 2 has preset movements.

the 2 in itself is a great console.. it has scene layering and the same preset record functions for effect layering... plus the size of the 2 makes it an awesome console to carry around. they are both great.. but the 3 makes programming easier.
