I bought one used and while cleaning it I realized there is oil residue evident on certain areas of it, particularly the container. I thought this was only a water-based fazer. Does it have a heater/compressor in it and is it safe for them to have done that? I was only planning on using the green water-based stuff with it for a variety of reasons, chief among them not wanting to mess it up.

the X 310 does in fact have a heater. certain fog fluid can leave a residue similar to an oil base fluid. your best bet is clean it and run some fluid through it and check the output.
BTW, will it shut itself off or cease fazing if it runs out of fluid? Bad, doesn't matter?

And even if some fog fluid has oil-like stuff in it, can hazer fluid or even mineral oil be run through this thing? Not sure I'd ever want that, considering the residue it leave around my stuff...
it will light up and let you know its low. (low fluid indicator). its never a good idea to run them empty as you may loose the prime on the pump.
