design spot 250 overheating stepper motors?

i have a design spot 250 that had a dead fan and was cycling on and off, i changed the fan and the unit starts and runs fine for about 15 to 20 min and then the shutter wont open and the color wheel and rotating gobo wheel just stop moving, the unit still runs with the lamp on and the prism operating but the shutter will remain closed indefinitely until shut down.

are the servos overheating and quiting? i have been running it with the cover off and when the they quit moveing theyre really hot.

It sounds like you have a bad head pcb, this probably happen as a result of the fixture overheating. Are the 3 black capacitors on the head PCB swollen? If so then replace the PCB.

thanks, i have another unit that is blowing the slow blow fuse on the main pcb in the bottom. i replaced the fuse and it ran for about an hour and blew. The fans continue to run but the control are dead. This one had no overheating problem that im aware of.

i changed both pcbs out in the head with known good ones and the shutter will still close and not re open after a few min of opperation, im also getting an error code on reset now but it flashes by to fast to read.

Should i try to change out the shutter motor next?

Yes, change the shutter motor. It may fix the error.

i changed the shutter motor and now after about 15 min evey channel related to the pcb, ie shutter, color, gobo rotation, just stops responding, is the other pcb possiably bad too?

you can do a hard reset first, via the menu go to specs hit enter then dfse hit enter, arrow up to on hit enter, then retest. also is the spring belt (its the silver figure 8 belt in between the 2 blades) ok and not broken?

the errors are gone, it was a sensor issue, the unit opperates fine and the shutter works, but the pcb goes dead after about 15 min, you lose everthing on the top pcb, This is the same thing that the first board with the popped cap was doing and i changed it to one that was as far as i know was fine. Now the shutter, gobo, color, ect, just seam to quit. The heat sinks on the pcb seam to be realy hot, not sure how hot they should be

i tried another head pcb, and it still does the same thing, the problem is not the pcb in the head.

could it be the main board or a dmx driver problem?
