I am running compulive for our church application and i do like the software interface and useability of the software. We are new to the pc based controllers and are running 4 martin scanners, 2 chauvet moving heads, 2 adj par 56 led, and 4 chauvet colorstrips. The moving heads and scanners are working great.

The problem we are facing is a random flashing on the chauvet color strips and a dim and fade issue with the adj pars. I spoke to Barry at Chauvet and he seems to think this is a controller issue...well maybe... and i would think it a light issue if it werent for the adj's acting funny too. The flashing is totally random and is individual to each fixture.

We like all the items we are using just wish we could resolve the flashing issue. Has anyone had a similar problem or can give me some advise? PLEASE!!!!

we are running the newest Beta version of the software now. we have been running 2006 all along but recently downloaded the beta hoping for a fix. we have also run the software on 2 pc's with windows XP and now on a brand new Vista machine all usb 2.0 and latest updates. thanks for the response and hope you can find something to help us.
Interesting.
It sounds like you have a data issue.
We need to go back to some Basic DMX 101 questions.
1. are you using a data splitter?
2. did you make any "Y" adaptors?
3. Are you using Mic cable or DMX data cable?
4. Are you using a terminator?

Your best trouble shooting solution will be to get the problem fixtures and connect them directly to the Compu Live interface.
Use a 10' cable from the interface to the Color Strip, then to the ADJ par.
Test each one individually.

If they work fine in close range, then its an issue with the cables you are using.

Many Many Many issues usually come back to cables.

I knew you would ask too. Lets address this way:

#1 we have tried with and with out the splitter
#2 we do not have any "Y" adapters
#3 We are using DMX cable
#4 We are using a terminator.

now
#5 We have tried hooking up each individual light directly to the elation dongle
#6 we have reprogrammed each light (X2)
#7 We have uninstalled software and reinstalled it.
#8 We have isolated power problems in the house ac wiring.
#9 We have tried 3 pc's including purchasing a brand new one to operate with.

I think that about covers it. I have been pulling my hair out for about 4 weeks now just to make sure we have done all we can do.

Barry that I spoke with at Chauvet keeps revering to refresh rate and says Marting was having a similar issue with the Light Jockey and they have recently addressed the problem. It seems to only be an issue on LED's.

thanks for your assistance
Josh
I am condsidering sending you a Chauvet light strip and letting you hook it up to your system to see what it does.

If you would be interested in doing that please let me know what address to send it to.

you can e-mail me at firediver238 at yahoo dot com.

I just want it all to work and need to pin down the problem. I am definitely leaning towards a light issue. I just need some help from you to see.
Slightly off topic....I had a similar problem tonight using the DMX "in" feature. The lights would not keep their integrity from the peripheral console. The solution was restarting the Compuware program. It seems that after my computer went to sleep, it (Compuware) restarted with data corruption - 2 nights in a row - same problem, but fixable!
firediver,

I had a similar problem with the Chauvet colorstrips too. And I have found a way to make them lid rock steady.

The random flashing of my colorstrips just happen whenever I hook them up to the ADJ Dynasty scanners. Those DJ grade scanners broadcast TONS of RF interference.

In your case, I would disconnect all of the DMX cables off the lights, and hook the Colorstrip first to the chain. After that, hook the rest of the lights one by one until you find out the bad light causing the colorstrips acting up.

I would not throwing the bad light(s) away, but I will take a hold of the DMX splitter, and hook that bad light (or the whole group of that light) to one of the DMX splitter output by themself.

Hope this helps.
I knew there was a topic for this.

I had this same issue 2 weeks ago, with 8 adj led megabars. I hooked everything up, and when I sent out data, they just flashed randomly, im pretty sure it was a cabling issue , but being i had only 10 minutes till doors, I was forced to put them on auto since I would have no time what-so-ever to replace each cable one by one. I was pretty assured thought that it was a cabling issue, especially when I used them the next weekend and they worked fine. Albiet, I didn't know if they were the EXACT same fixtures since I rented them, but I still had a good feeling it was just a cabling issue.

Do DMX data cables, and Mic cables make much of a difference?
