I have a Macbook Pro and Emulation control software and need to be able to control my light show with a foot switch while playing bass on stage. I'd like to be able to do scene and chase changes.

What foot controller and midi interface to Macbook do you recommend? Behringer FCB1010? Midi Buddy?

Would I be better off purchasing a Magic 260 since it has a built in midi port? Our lights consist of 8 DMX pars, 2 Chauvet Quad Phase and 2 Chauvet Intimidator 300 LED scanners. It seems that programming the scanners would be easier using software, but I'm a complete DMX lighting noob.

Our drummer already owns a DMX Operator.

Bottom line requirement - I need to control the scenes and chases with my feet.

Thanks,
Mitchell

I'm keeping emulation no matter what. I like it SO much better then the competition. It is the Behringer that I don't want to be stuck with in case it doesn't work the way I'm hoping.

My old-old light show was an NSI 1616 controller with 4 4600 dimmer packs. 12 Par 64s and 4 special effects lights. I had programmed the controller and it was a simple thing to just plug in my Rolls midi-buddy footswitch and control my various scenes and chases. Of course, back then, a scene was simple... one light = one fader, press 'save to scene xx' and you're done. As you can imagine, we blew a lot of circuits and could never get enough A/C power for the whole show.

I'm considering the purchase of a hardware 'by hand' controller to do some light work for bands when I'm not playing.

I can borrow my drummers DMX Operator... but what do you suggest for interfacing with Emulation? Sometimes there is nothing like knobs, buttons, and faders instead of a mouse and shortcut keys.

Thank you for your attention.

Okay... Stupid question time. Since Elation and American DJ are sort of the same company, if PC platform didn't matter (Windows vs Mac), do you like MyDMX or Emulation? I'm new at software for lights but have bunches of computers. GC sold me Emulation because they know I use a Mac. But I also use PCs. Would MyDMX have been a better choice?
