I am understanding this more now. Now I know I need a more complete profile for the ADJ Mega Panel LED. I may take a stab at it in the Builder. Any assistance appreciated. Here is the manual for the light:

http://www.americandj.com/pdffiles/mega-panel-led.pdf

Specifically, I need profiles for Mode 5, Mode 6 and Mode 8, please, and , thanks! For Eumulation 1.03.29.

A few questions...

Is a terminator critical with this software and 8 Mega Panel LEDs?

Is there any way to change the mode of one of these lights from Emulation? For example, I want to run in mode 4, a 26 channel mode controlling 8 LED blocks (sub fixtures). Then, I'd like to flip to mode 5, a 2 channel mode with a few dozen macro tricks. I have accidentally done this, where one of the color sliders suddenly starts to control macros. In a few words...how do you setup emulation so a light can switch modes from the software?

Thanks so much for any help and tips getting started.

Hi, Sorry for the delay in response.

first of all there is no mode 8 for the mega panel. read this:
"The Modes go as follows: DMX MODE 1 is 3 Channel mode,
DMX MODE 2 is 4 Channel mode, DMX MODE 3 is 14 Channel mode, DMX MODE 4 is 26 Channel mode, DMX MODE 5 is 2 Channel mode, DMX MODE 6 is 6 Channel mode, and DMX MODE 7 is 7 Channel mode."

I can make the missing channel modes and add it to the library sometime today and send you a link to download the updated xml.

Yes a terminator is always recommended.

There is no way to change the mode of the fixtures from DMX on this fixture. You have to go up to the unit and manually change the settings from the fixtures control display. If you had accidentally done this all it means is you probably accessed one of the macro's built into either the 2ch, 6ch, or 7ch mode DMX traits for this fixture not that you changed the channel mode function via DMX. This is possible on some fixtures but not on the mega panel. Sorry. I will do my best to add the remaining channel modes to the profile today.
Are you on Windows or Mac?
Sincerely,
Thank you very much for the reply, and thank you for working on the profile. Please take your time!

And Thanks! For the clarification on the modes. Sorry about the 8 mode typo.

I'm using this mostly with a mac book and 8 fixtures, but have worked with one fixture with a PC for a few hours.

Still learning DMX and Elation. I think I can duplicate all the Macro effects if the light is in 26 channel mode (mode 4). It would be good to have access to the full profile though. But in Mode 4, each of the 8 sub-fixtures can be controlled singly or in groups (i think). I hope.

I am thinking about working with only 2 lights to keep the variables down while I learn through this. Then add on on the others and more complexity. I'd appreciate any other suggestions you may have for learing this software. I am stressing google and the internet to the max trying to learn more.

Thank you again for your reply!

OK I added the rest of the channel modes. Download the new ADJ XML HERE.
on windows the file path to place the file is:
C:\Users\{Username}\Documents\Elation\Common\Personalities\User

for Mac it is similar to the windows file path.
once you have the file in the right folder open Emulation and then go to patch and then in the manufacturer list scroll down to the very bottom until you see {User}American DJ and the updated profile will be in there. Then patch your fixtures in like normal.

But yes in the 26 channel mode you will be able to control all 8 sections of LEDS in that mode.

Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
