So easy it's almost scary easy. Personally, I'd like to see a few more options.
I am doing a show that is sync'd to a projected presentation(1h,55m movie). I'm using Sony Vegas for the video editing, and for work purposes, I have a file that's the same time cut as the feature(there's changes, but nothing that affects the timeline). So, I had to install my MIDI interface(MIDISPORT2X2) and then looped OUT A to IN B. I told Sony Vegas to output MTC at 24fps down OUTA, and told Easy Show to receive Sync from IN B.
That was it. Hit Play on Compu Show's Easy Show and use the transport control in Sony Vegas to run the show. I did have to set Sony Vegas to MUTE so the off-set wouldn't drive me nuts.
Not bad for a 1 computer solution.
BUT, because of this, and other stuff going on, we'll be expanding this for LIVE. We'll have the director run video off her laptop, use my Firewire 410 to run MIDI to me via a LONG MIDI cable(or a MIDI extender over Cat5, already found a bunch), and then let Easy Show just "take orders". It follows the timecode really good. I'm very pleased. The off-set can be a bit annoying, but it's usable, only off by approximately 4 frames at most, which for what I'm doing, is definately acceptable.
Right now, I am actively creating scenes and switches in Compu Show and then importing them as I go. It's not the most efficient method, but I'm still learning. But, what I like best is I can see what I'm doing in the proper time alignment.
You don't want to know how I did this in ADJ's MyDMX. I pushed that software to the max, and now despite Compu Show's learning curve, it's paying off. It will be a slow conversion process, but I still have around 45 days. I figure if I can get anywhere from 10-15 minutes of film done a day, I'll be good. There's a few rather static scenes and a 12+ minute intermission, so I expect a few breaks here and there. I have MyDMX next to me on another machine so I can see what I need to pull over.
Still lots to learn!
