Hello all,

I am new to this forum so please excuse me for any breach of etiquette.

I have had several issues recently working on a Show Designer 3 console. On several occasions while controlling individual channels of dmx on the flex faders (ie. fader 1 controls dmx channel 1, fader 2 controls channel 2 and so on...) I have hit the flex fader "page up" button and received an unexpected response from the controller.

What I was anticipating was for the 1st fader on page 2 to control the 9th channel of dmx, and the 2nd fader to control the 10th channel, and for that to continue all the way through the consecutive pages. Instead, though the LED indicated that I was on the 2nd page of flex faders, I was still controlling the 1st eight channels of dmx.

How do I ensure that when I am controlling individual channels of dmx, that my flex faders control the next 8 channels when I change pages?

I suspect this an issue with my flex fader mode or something similar, but I could not find a solution for it in the manual or in searching these forums.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks.

If the flex faders are set to dimmer or playback mode, the faders are locked to their assignments while active. This means that you maintain control over whatever was started on that fader even if you change pages. If you set the flex faders to channel mode then you will have the DMX channel control you want. In this mode you must also first select the fixture you want to control.
Hi Ken,

Thank you for the quick response! The issue that I've been having was with using the flex faders in "conventional dimmer" mode. Periodically while programming scenes, the flex faders would lock on to page 1 and not allow me to get to anything other than what I had programmed on then the 8 faders on Page 1, even though the display screen would still indicate that I was on another page.

I still have not been able to identify the source of the problem, but I did find a work around. When ever the problem would occur all I've had to do was go into the "Select Flex Fader Mode" menu and press enter on "Conventional Dimmers" (which was already selected). Upon doing this the problem would stop and my control over flex fader pages would revert back to its normal function. This seems to be doing the trick for now.

I don't have any idea what was causing the issue occur though - everything in the manual about flex fader control seems pretty straight-forward logical, and I could not find anything describing what I was seeing.

If anybody else has experienced something similar to this I would love to hear about it.

Thanks,
The flex faders use page lock for active faders in playback mode, but in dimmer mode they are supposed to follow the current page selection. The only exception is when using the flash button. In that case you want the flashed dimmer to stay locked to its original page so that you can release it when you lift the button.
Locking a playback fader to whatever it's currently controlling when you change a page is sort of a common thing, otherwise you lose control of whatever you might be running on the fader. If it's not doing anything, like in your case though it should follow the page.

In the manual under using playbacks;

"The playback will begin when the fader is moved just slightly above the 0 position and then released once it is brought back to 0. Once started, the memory will be attached to that fader until released, even if the page is changed."
Greetings Ken & jnobel,

I am having the exact same problem with the flex faders not switching pages. I have the flex faders set to conventional dimmers with the first 24 dmx address used (3 pages). The pages will work for a while then just stop (freeze on a page) even though the page indicator changes. Restarting the console will correct it and so will reselecting "Conventional Dimmers" under Flex Fader menu. I am running the SD3 under the lastest software version 1.15M. What can you tell us SD Man?
I have found one possible situation in the software that could disconnect the flex dimmer page from the conventional dimmers. If at anytime you record a new playback on one of the bottom faders, I think the flex fader page control gets disabled. The display still works and can be changed but internally the page gets stuck. Going to the menu and reselecting the flex mode as you have described here would reset that. I don't have a unit here to test this but if someone wants to try it, I think that might be it.
