Using NSI ND4600 with DMX Op Pro

Hi Jack,

DMX operator is compatible with all DMX dimmers.
if the NSI dimmer is not DMX then you will need a converter.

It may be 0-10v analog or MultiPlex (MPX).
If is is Multi Plex (MPX) then you need to contact NSI for a converter.
If it is 0-10V then we have a pretty cool item.

The documentation for NSI lists it as Microplex.
It seems like the range of address's doesn't go high enough to work with the Op Pro.
Perhaps I need to do more research.

no not at all. its 2 different data communication languages..

NSI was using Microplex (MPX) before DMX became widely used.

DMX = DIGITAL MULTIPLEX
DMX has now become the new standard in lighting communication.

there were only 2 companies using MPX... that I can think of. but now they have converted to DMX.
since they were sort of exclusively using the MPX then that is why they have the converter.

Seems like it would be less expensive to just get new dimmer packs, based on the list prices for the equipment being discussed. If it was me, that's the way I would go. Plus, less stuff to have around and hence less stuff to break.

Studio is correct.. if you have only 2 packs then it makes sense buying new packs.
this item is best used for installations that have about 10 - 20 packs.. then it makes sense buying just 1 converter.

Makes sense, especially since it appears that would provide a new data chain.

But, here's my other line of thought:

Maybe it's time to join the 21st century and upgrade to stuff that won't require adaptors and converters to make it work. Besides, ADJ and Elation make some good dimmer packs. Plus, going with a "one brand, one call" type support philosophy, it can help as well.
