I have a couple of questions about the x fader and sequencer. What are the practical use for the sequencer? the x fader? What type of fixtures are these consoles specifically geared for.

Those features can really be used with any light.
Xfader: Allows you to cross fade between any dmx channel you wish. For example you could assign the tilt channel and modify the min and max value to make a tilt "Wave" effect. Or if you have LED RGB lights you can apply the x fade function to make various color fades or a rainbow effect.
Sequencer: allows for a more random quick changing look. It is really good for par can style type chases. but if you have RGB Led fixtures you can create some nice bright quick random color changes. My advice would be to play around with it and see what looks cool to you.
