Re: Introduction and basic questions

JWPardee (Guest) ·
Some really good knollege on this post...But, respectfully, i have to say i agree and disagree with some of the posts. Yes, not all controllers are created equally....some hardware controllers are great at user ability, but lack in the ability of amount of ways to use it. Where a computer controler has a learning curve, but does have MANY more features than i see it getting credit for. So, how do you pick one? Best way for you is different as it is for me, and like wise, it is different for...

Dimmer noise - DP-DMX20L

joegardner ·
I've got a dozen older DP-DMX20L units that are sending noise back into the electrical system and ultimately showing up in the sound system. Goes quiet at 0, 50 & 100% and the closer to 25 & 75% the louder the hum. Is this simply inexpensive dimmers or should I be looking elsewhere? It should be noted that ALL audio signal cables are balanced XLR type, everything is powered from the same panel with the same ground (I know, I installed it.) I actually didn't have this issue when I...

RE: Cyber Pack Help

TeacherX ·
Help! I just purchased four Cyber Pack 20a dimmers and can't understand the user manual at all! (what is a "note number"?) I am familiar with DMX and have used many different types of dimmers, but the documentation for this product leaves much to be desired. I'm wondering if anyone has seen more thorough documentation online that I can access. I'm trying to configure the units to work sequentially so the first pack is DMX 1-4, the next is 5-8, etc. What is the correct menu/button sequence to...

SD1 and Generic Dimmer pack programming

SquireDude ·
I have an SD1 that is working fine but I have recently purchased a couple of Optima Matrix Pro dimmer packs. THey are supposed to work in 1, 2, and 4 channel modes. They work in 1 and 2 channel modes but fail in 4 channel mode. I have contacted the seller but they have no answers. I have suggested several times that it may be my programming but they are not familiar with the SD1. I am creating it as a Generic Dimmer and assigning 4 channels to it. I have tried 4 different dimmer packs and...

Using an Eliminator Instigator 2.0 with an Elation console

bjbproductions ·
Hey guys, I'm pretty new to DMX and I've got a few questions.. I own the Elation "DMX Programmer" a small 64DMX channel board. Up until now, I have been using the consol to just run chases with a few floor pars. (Even though I talked to American DJ and they said It wouldn't control floor pars. ) Anyway, I am looking into getting one intelligent light. (I don't have lots of money, and this is just for a "lighting lab" in my basement) I was planning on just getting a small intelligent mirror...

Re: Fog, Fans and Fun

something to look into, this is what i use....i can manually adjust the speed and everything from my consol...this lets me blow low level fog off stage in a hurry quiet and gets the job done great... you can also go to home depot (or other like stores) and get a few small ducts that split the wind up letting you place the fan far off stage out of the way. (this is what i do) allowing multiple angles and locations with little to no noise... But that is my way of doing it :-) ...

Re: SD1 and Generic Dimmer pack programming

SquireDude ·
Hi, After multiple tests using either of the Generic Dimmers definitions… I found that one definition is only 2 chnl and the other definition is 3 chnls. Instead of defining it as a Generic Dimmer pack I used RGBW and now I have all 4 channels working fine. Thanks, Phillip

Hi, this should all work fine, as long as the patch is correct and the packs themselves are in the correct mode and address, if it works in 1 and 2ch, it should work in 4ch.

Permanent Dmx Ghosting Issues

bubbajoe ·
Hi everybody! I am currently renovating a permanent install which was a mess. I have found two unknown Dmx 5 pin leads that look like they are home runs from the dimmers in the back to the console. I am having ghosting issues with these two Dmx lines they look like two separate lines. There is no problem with the console because there is only one dmx line that runs to the dimmers and they work perfectly. Do not know the brand of the dimmers. I am wondering what my next troubleshooting steps...

Hello, I know this thread is more of a general area, but we can't offer advice for gear that is not Elation or ADJ branded equipment, and this unit doesn't look to be one of our old SS 24s. I would find the manufacturer and email or call them.

Equipment Compatiability for Church Lighting

Neal Evans ·
Hello I am working with a local church regarding some new lighting and have a few questions. I am looking at the following lights: -Elation KL Fresnel 6 150W 3000K -Elation KL Fresnel 4 50W 3000K Four of the 6" Fresnels across the front. Two 4" Fresnels for backlighting the main speaker and another two 4" Fresnel for additional lighting. My main question regards controlling theses lights. The church uses the following for lighting control: -ADJ DP-DMX20L 4 channel Dimmer Packs (qty4) -Stage...

Thank you for your response. So, just to be clear. Fixtures need to plug straight into AC with the powerCON/Edison adapter. DMX just daisy chains through the lighting fixtures. DMX addresses each fixture directly. Correct?

That sounds correct to me, yes.

Hi, these KL series of fixtures cannot be run off of a dimmer pack, or at least the ones you mentioned cannot. they need their own power source that is outside of the edison plugs on the DP-DMX20L. and they will have to be wired into DMX in the chain as new fixtures.

Re: Dimmer noise - DP-DMX20L

Abdulrazzaq1 ·
Hello, It Looks you're experiencing electrical interference issues in your lighting system, affecting your sound system. This is likely due to inexpensive or older dimmers. The noise is most noticeable at specific dimming levels and disappears at 0%, 50% , and 100%. To resolve the problem: Consider dimmer quality and upgrade if necessary. Ensure you're not overloading dimmers with excessive wattage. Physically separate dimmers from audio equipment. Verify proper grounding to prevent ground...
