AILO: A Chrismas Gift to all ONYX Users

Hello dear ONYX user, it is long time ago I have posted a topic, but now it is worth it to do it again: I have invented AILO: an Artificial Intelligent Light Operator. It is a machine learning software that learns from a human light operator how to do good light for music. How this is archieved and much more information and also presentation videos you can find on its website: http://ailo.show I hope you enjoy my development and you tell others about it (even if they are not using ONYX )...

Using MIDI with Alcorn McBride WinScript

phillipmaz ·
I'm designing a 4D simulation using an Alcorn McBride V16 Pro as the base controller. For the lights, the V16 has MIDI out which I'm sending to an SD2 lighting board. The issue is that the MIDI format is different than standard MIDI. Does anyone know any workarounds for this? Particularly if you've had experience using WinScript to program MIDI cues. I don't know if there is a way for the MIDI message to automatically convert to Elation's format or if there is a specific I/O or variable I...

I'm not a qualified service person, but I've got it under control. Are these easy to come by? Where do I get one? I'd prefer a European, or rather, scandinavian supplier. Thank you! James, that is good news. I heard from the German supplier that phoned Elation and was informed that there is no date for next production run and I also heard the same from Elation UK. If you know where I can purchase and ensure a delivery in the next few days that would be a huge help. Many thanks Paulnick

Re: Multiple issues

atlantadj ·
Hi and thanks for the fast resonse. No, I never said the unit was soaked. Just that the outside is so sticky, that it must have been used in a install situation with a lot of oil based fogger for something. Is it possible to get a copy of the service manuals for both the 700 and the 250. While I do have meters to check for continuity and power, I would love to have some picture to know where exactly I should be checking. Before I dismantle the 250 to remove the stepper, i would like to order...

The SD2 uses standard MIDI continuous controller messages to trigger scenes. As long as you can generate those from you software you should be able to create cues. The SD2 manual has a page that shows how to make the message. Controller messages work better than notes for this controller due to the large number of scene slots.

Re: 250 Design Spot plastic cover panels

Kojak ·
I don't know what this substance is but in the 90s there were lots of electronic gear that was encased with this rubber coating because it gave the device a "tough" look. Years later we know now that stuff is no good; it decomposes over time and turns to greasy sticky tar. Elation techs say the company doesn't supply lights coated with this substance anymore; they use a different plastic panel supplier for their products now, and they were not willing to say what the substance was or offer...

As per the below there are 2 power supply Internal and External? Can you please advice how does that work? How the connectivity gets connected to make sure all the PD lights are connected and we get them working? My question is that do we need External Power or we can use Internal Power? If we can use Internal Power how will it work and what will be connectivity? Thanks!!!

where are you located? also on page 10 the general power connections are outlined. this should be sufficent information for the electrician. between this information and current load, the electrician should be able to calculate how many outlets etc would be needed based on your particular needs/ also local building codes as well.

Greetings.. there is no connectivity diagram per se since they only have one power in. your electrical contractor would have to design a grid. the specs are listed on the web page, your electrical contractor will need this information for load calculations.

Platinum Wash ZFX Flickering Issue

Vilkas ·
My client has some Elation Platinum Wash ZFX Pro units in a permanent event space install. I do an annual maintenance sweep for them. Last year a couple of the units started to flicker when they get close to full on (R, G, B, W emitters all at or near full). If you take the edge off and lower some intensities, the problem goes away. I replaced the LED driver boards in both units and the problem went away. Fast forward a year and the same two units are showing the exact same problem. All the...

greetings, yes i work for elation, we have seen this issue on units with higher hours on them. over time the current demand increases slightly and the existing cable is not quite thick enough. this being said there maybe other issues which may require attention but based on your description this typically resolved the issue.

I would look at your DMX runs and make sure: A) That you don't have too many DMX devices on one run B) that the DMX line is terminated at the end C) If you have a DMXcat or DMX tester, try sitting in a cue/look and seeing if the flicker finder notices anything. You can also view the DMX levels while you see the flicker and see if something is being sent that shouldn't.

Equipment Compatiability for Church Lighting

Hello I am working with a local church regarding some new lighting and have a few questions. I am looking at the following lights: -Elation KL Fresnel 6 150W 3000K -Elation KL Fresnel 4 50W 3000K Four of the 6" Fresnels across the front. Two 4" Fresnels for backlighting the main speaker and another two 4" Fresnel for additional lighting. My main question regards controlling theses lights. Thank you for your response. So, just to be clear. Fixtures need to plug straight into AC with the powerCON/Edison adapter. DMX just daisy chains through the lighting fixtures. DMX addresses each fixture directly. Correct?

That sounds correct to me, yes.

Re: Equipment Compatiability for Church Lighting

Hi, these KL series of fixtures cannot be run off of a dimmer pack, or at least the ones you mentioned cannot. they need their own power source that is outside of the edison plugs on the DP-DMX20L. and they will have to be wired into DMX in the chain as new fixtures.

I am facing same problem, there are 6 elation wash are flickering in my rig only whenever I turn white color or dimmer color on. no flickers in blue , red ,green,.i had parked white color for some lights looks good some times suddenly flickers. i feel it is main PCB issue not the cable . main power cable (red&blue ) seems good because I checked with multimeter they are giving right volts 28.28.

Re: Platinum Wash ZFX Flickering Issue

Hi there! Yes. I succeeded changing the cable for the new version. Problem is solved. Did you meter power at the head with all emitters at full? I definitely found that with everything at full juice, there was a slight voltage drop that I thought at the time was negligible, but it turns out it was the cause of the issue. The new wiring harnesses I installed looked and felt identical to the old ones, but definitely solved the problem. My only guess is that the original harnesses must have had...
