Luis, I have tried that numerous times. Granted , it has been about 10 years since I have used DMX lighting. My last controller, An Election was a breeze to address. This is my second Scene Setter 24 in four weeks. The first one my salesperson and I assumed was defective. Now, for many years I have used XLR mic cables and I am learning that they may not work with todays new lighting components. I am assuming there is quit a difference between XLR and DMX cabling... So, I presently have...

Re: Help w/ DMX addys

homeboy ·
The first pack should have only the first dip switch up and the second should have only the first and third up. This will make the channel 1 for the first and 5 for the second, thus covering all 8 channels you want. No, you can't separate the two plugs so you get 8 channels out of each pack, its strictly 4 channels. However, yes you can add more packs and "piggy back" or "daisy chain" (which ever term you prefer) off of the DMX outs from the last dimmer pack. You should already be doing this...

Yes.. Your right!! You got me on this one. It says that you need to change the lens. However after years of working with these lights I wouldn't worry about it much. These lenses last years!!! Now if you have them in an enviorment with alot of smoke, cigarete smoke and daily use like a club or bar, then this lens will take a lot of abuse and replaceing it will improve your output. But if your a mobile guy doing shows on the weekends, I wouldn't be to concerned about replaceing this lens.

Re: Help with DP-DMX-20L and DP 415 dimmer packs

Thank you. Found the issue. I was attempting to address the DP415s as one channel each rather than 4 like the DP-DMX-20Ls are capable of. Once I fixed that issue and found a cabling issue everyhing started working. I appreciate the reassurances! Just some additional background on me. I was unsure about this as this is the first time I have ever had to do an install rather than just walk in turn on a board, plug in DMX lines and begin programming. John, 1. I changed the degree angle from 630 to 540 on the light. I even reset the pan motors on the light. Unfortunately, this did not affect the "home" position of the light. It looks like I'm still off by 45-90 degrees on the pan. 2. Also, I did invert the pan last night to get the movement direction corrected (i.e. Clockwise vs. Counter Clockwise pan). So anyway, ?????, still can't get my "home" positions to match the viewer. And, yes, it does affect every movement in real life after...

Thanks for the response. We use 2 elationdmx20l dimmer paks on separate circuits, 4 par cans on each, and to the best of my knowledge the dmx line is terminated properly. I don't believe we are exceeding the maximum load as the lights worked fine all last year.

I GOT IT!! I was using the auto patch feature so I was confident of the addressing. I didn't realize there was a pre program for the DP-DMX20L. I was using the generic 4ch program and the dimmers didn't like that. Changed the program and put the scan's last in the chain and PRESTO, we now have stability. I also moved the scanners addresses further away from the dimmers. Thanks for all the suggestions. Hopefully I can return the favor someday.

This is probably a stupid question... but since all of the lights we own are not dmx, i have to ask :P What is the significance of whether a controller is intended for intelligent/fx/par cans? For instance, why is the operator pro not capable of running par cans except on the last 8 channels? The operator pro looks like it has a street price close to some pc-controlled systems i've seen. Would we be better off just lugging one of our laptops with us and running things that way?

hey. actually there are no stupid questions here. we try to teach all we can to the customers so no worries about questions ok? also on the op pro the reason the faders are on the right side is just for convience of having two controller sides to the board it doesn't mean they are the last 8 channels. you can assign the pars cans dimmer packs to start at any channel on the board through your dimmer packs. if you wanna go for convience and low equipment carry around try compuware if you want...

It is a way for each and every (DMX Compatible ) light, made by any manufacturer, to interact with an universal DMX controller. In a standard DMX protocol (called 512-DMX protocol) there are a total of 512 "channels" In order to get your lights to interact with the controller, you must address them. There are 2 ways (that I know of) that...

Out of order isn't as much a problem on cue lists as one may think. As long as you label stuff and are fast, the 'Go to' button is your best friend. I did a dance concert last year with about 500 cues, and it went in a different order each night. So I named each scene and programed in blocks. Like scene one was cues 10 thru 19 with 19 being the blackout, allowing me to record pre-load cues from 19.1-19.9. Worked well. It also gave each number a block of cues that lined up numerically cue...

Welcome to the forums Snakeman! All you have to do is daisy chain all of your fixtures together. It doesn't matter what order you do them in, just try to find the shortest path. If your DMX run is longer than 100ft it is advised to terminate the last fixture. You don't need a DMX branch or opti splitter. Just come out of you board into the first fixture, out of that fixture and into the next, etc. etc. Also you may want to take of your e-mail address or seperate (robjan AT telus DOT net) it...

32 max is pushing it. I generally start having problems with LEDs at 8 fixtures, depending on length of the run and fixtures in question. Dimmers, I daisy chain those things forever and they don't care, and I am talking racks upon racks upon racks. Movers, depends on the brand and length of cable in question. Some days it's 16, others it's 20, sometimes I can only get 6 on before the 7th starts acting up. If your last fixture in line is acting funny, and a terminator isn't helping, chances...

Not to rob Jingles of business, but I think it would be beneficial for you to just buy a small DMX controller that will allow YOU to program your own scenes and chases. For one, you will learn a lot about DMX lighting and how to accomplish many different things. Plus, you will be able to modify, remove, and add to your current banks of scenes and chases without having to rely on someone else providing designs for you. You will then know how it all works inside and out, plus have the...

I want to create a dimmer chase for Design LED 36's that I can save and then overlay on any of my other static DLED 36 scenes. i.e. Say I have 3 scenes programmed for my DLED's.

Thanks for the explenation, it really helps me understand this stuff better, and what I need to get. so does this mean that you have 96 pages for each book or 96 pages total for all 8 books put together? And you mentioned the DMX opereater Pro. Is this a good controller? It seems to have everything on it that I would need. And how hard is it to program these "pages". Yes, you have 96 pages that you can add to 8 different books in different ways for each book. The console doesn't say how many pages per book, so I assume you can use as many as you want. Don't quote me on it though. Sometimes you will see something like number of steps per show or chase. So if it says 40 Steps per Show, that would mean each of your books can have 40 pages in it, but you can make up 96 different pages to use in the case of the DMX Operator Pro. Don't think of CompuLive so...

Re: DMX Programmer Question

First question, depending on the LEDs in question, yes, funny things can happen when you first fade up the first scene. For example, if using the marco commands for color/programs, when you first start, it has to fade through the other before getting to where you want it. The fix for this is easy, write a scene before your first, and set the LEDs with the dimmer channel off. The next scene, keep the LED settings the same, but bring up the dimmer. This should solve the problem. You can also...
