Re: Midi Master
Yes, any usb midi controller can be assigned to most buttons in the software to act as a dimmer or a trigger. If you right click on a fader in the program you will see a link to midi controller option which will then ask you to select a button on your midi console to assign it. The software even has some of the more popular midi controllers set up for you already in the show console window icon, all you have to do is assign the button.

Re: Show Designer
hey wassup? and welcome to the elation lighting forums! first off for the sd1 and par cans and effects. meaning non dmx fixtures u will need dimmer/ switch packs as well. what they do is u can plug ur effects and pars cans to them and depending what fixtures u have they will either dim the cans or turn on and off the effects that u have. but don't ever try to use a dimmer on a effect light cause it really need to be just shut off and on dimming them could decrease lamp life i think. also...

Re: Help w/ DMX addys
The first pack should have only the first dip switch up and the second should have only the first and third up. This will make the channel 1 for the first and 5 for the second, thus covering all 8 channels you want. No, you can't separate the two plugs so you get 8 channels out of each pack, its strictly 4 channels. However, yes you can add more packs and "piggy back" or "daisy chain" (which ever term you prefer) off of the DMX outs from the last dimmer pack. You should already be doing this...

Re: dmx profiles
Hi Gary, You wouldn't need a profile for a dimmer packs. Dimmer packs are generic and don't have any special values, say colors or gobos or prisms. All you need to do is go to the generic page and use a par 56 or par 64. So if you have a 4 ch dimmer as you do with the dp-dmx20l you will use a par 56 then say you have 4 units. If you have a 12ch dimmer say like the Elation RMD-1210 you will use a par 56 and then put that you have 12 fixtures.

Re: Help with DP-DMX-20L and DP 415 dimmer packs
Of course they are! Its all DMX it doesn't matter if there is two different dimmer packs or any of the dmx consoles out there will all be able to control anything dmx WHEN USED PROPERLY. I don't mean to be harsh, but how much do you know about your console? The fat frog is a pretty high end console, you need a lot to happen for just one slider to control one light, its very complicated. Have you checked the patch? are you in one scene mode or two? what about the universe settings, master,...

hey and welcome to the board. well i can tell this is gonna be a long post for me lol! now i acn answer most of these with ways that have worked for me but we should also see what elation says about the best way ot do some of these things. 1) you can assign a fader to adjust the speed of each individual button u have created by right clicking on the fixture page or if u have it in a master scene the master page scrool down till u see live toolbar button. u will see a size and dimmer andspeed...

Re: Compu Live Questions
Jingles, Thanks for your help. I tried what you said, and here's what I found: 1. I do have my Cycle created under the Master page, so I tried using the Live Toolbar Button. I do see the size, dimmer and speed controls, but only when I have a scene (like Blue) selected. When I click my "Cycle 1" button, the size, dimmer and speed controls disappear and are replaced with the text: "Cycle: Cycle 1". It's like all of those features are being disabled b/c I'm running a cycle instead of a scene...

Hi John, Thank you for your responses as well. 1. I tried what you said and made my chase a Scene using Easy Step. After that I was able to control the speed via the Live Button Toolbar. So, in other words, I did not need to do anything further using Easy Time. I tried it any way (yellow button making the channels Easy Time), but it just seemed to mess up my chase, so I went back to making all channels Easy Step. I notice that the F7 and F8 keys allow me to adjust the speed up and down. Is...

Re: Design Spot 250 Fade Issues
Hi Joey, That's wierd. I just programmed a few scenes and I am not getting the strobing effect with the design spots. I think its a matter of how your recording your scenes. For example If I have scene 1 lights on with blue wave gobo in position 1. I would then simply bring the dimmer down to zero and record scene 2 with the dimmer all the way down. So when I go from scene 1 to scene 2 and I add a fade time, the dimmer takes the time to dim, and thus no strobing. I just thought about it and...

No im programming scenes for the master page. it just sucks because i don't want to have to go in and change the dimmer channel on every light in edit mode.. is there a faster way.. we do a lot of programming and we need to do it quick. im seriously considering buying a brand new console.. ive had way too many issues with this elation software.

Re: Design Spot 250 Fade Issues
Ahhh! Ok.. Your starting from INIT. This makes sense as with INIT all values of the moving light are off. So when you fade on, every function is fading. In programming you need to get used to creating set up scenes. A set up scene is the scene you want to be active before your actual scene comes on. This is what I was talking about when I suggested to create the scene you want, and bring down all the dimmers. Record that as the scene. Position, color, gobo, but dimmer off. then simply turn...

Re: Design Spot 250 Fade Issues
Yes, I agree with what your saying. The thing about this Compu live software is, it does not have a master dimmer like other major consoles. Using a MIDI console or a simple DMX console, like the Elation SD6C, you can use these other consoles external faders, that you can assing to the dimmers of your lights, then you will have dimming control of you softare as you would with the consoles your used to. However this software works a bit differenty than other consoles, so it does have a few...

Re: Compu 06 Help
Its not the dimmer... I plugged in an Elation pack and tried it and its doing the same thing. If I do a fade time of 5 seconds or so, its there but its real hard to notice because its so fast. If I do anything above that, around 60 seconds, its real noticible. Its like . . . . . . . . . . . Any ideas?

Re: Stage setter 8 question
I assume that you're using dimmer packs. Are you exceeding the maximum load? How many packs are you using? If more than 1, do you have them on separate circuits? Is the dmx line terminated

Re: Stage setter 8 question
Thanks for the response. We use 2 elationdmx20l dimmer paks on separate circuits, 4 par cans on each, and to the best of my knowledge the dmx line is terminated properly. I don't believe we are exceeding the maximum load as the lights worked fine all last year.

Re: Master Fade
Hi Luis, This needs to be set up using the Console option. You can assign multiple funtions to one dimmer. Also you can purchase the SD6C 6 channel dimmer board and assign your dimmers to a fader.

Re: RSER message
Hi Evolution. RSER This message informs you that one of the fixture function wasn’t able to do its reset correct (magnetic sensor, stepping motor, driver on the PCB, cables, etc.). Repair the defect and start the fixture again. When a fixture starts up, it goes through a calibration process to make sure all system are good. It tests every motor to make sure it works. So the light has a color wheel motor, gobo wheel motor, shutter/dimmer motor, pan motor, tilt motor etc. etc. One of these...

Re: Design Spot 250
Hi Esteban, that's odd. The fixture black out works fine for us, and up until now we have never heard of such an issue. If you manually play with the shutter channel, you will see that the shutter closes really fast.. the shutter can't dim. So what I think is happening is that when you activate the blackout function, it is for some reason using the dimmer channel instead of the shutter channel. Blackout should be directed to the shutter. Give these things a try.. I hope it works for you.

Hmm.. Doesn't make sense. the effects have a speed control. When you are using the FX the dimmer then turns to a speed control so you may need to adjust the speed to make it look right. Give it a shot.

Re: Compatibility Issue solved.
Hey John, I can have all 4 dimmer packs hooked up with everything running fine. I run up the dimmers to 100% on one channel for reference and everything will be fine. As soon as I hook up any of the 4 dynasty scan's into the chain the par's that I have at 100% will go out and then all the par's just flicker at random and any scan's that are hooked up will also flicker.

Re: Compatibility Issue solved.
Mike, This might be a stupid question but have you addressed the units and the dimmers so that they overlap addresses? Dimmer DMX address 1 along with one of the scans If they overlap they will act like they are carping out when you use an attribute in a moving light. Dimmer unit 1 address =1 Unit 2 address=5 scan 1 address =9 and scan 2 address=15… The magic 260 will allow you to chose what the start address is for each fixture.

Hmmm.. It sounds like you are having data issues. This means that either one of the cables is not working well. or 1 light or dimmer has a bad output. Here is what I recomend. Try connecting one thing at a time. 1 dimmer, then 1 light, 1 dimmer then 1 light I think you will find the problem this way. As you connect each dimmer, make sure you bring intensities to 100% before you connect the next light. When you find the problem, change the cable. And if all the cables are good, then change...

I have the same problems as well with a few Design LED 36s I just ordered. Great lights, but the standalone programs have strobing in them as well as the internal programs via DMX. Also, according to one of the paper manuals I have in front of me right now, there are two DMX modes. The first is 6 channel mode: R, G, B, Programs, Strobe, Dimmer. The second mode is 3 channel mode: R, G, B.

Re: Design 36 LED
That just explains channel issues, not the strobing with internal programs and stand alone. The revision of the manual is from 12/06, and the 7 channel list is from 5/07, so the manual has yet to be updated for 7 channels or 6 channel lights are still being made/sold. What I stated is merely what was in black and white in front of me and what was sent with the product. It is also quite possible that PU lighting has an older, 6 channel version of the light and not the 7 channel. I know that...

For the dimmer packs, whatever address you set it to (129 for your example) tells you all the address for each light. light one will be 129 and light 2 will be 130, 4 - 131, 5 - 132. so just use the faders (channels 129 - 132) to turn on the par cans. Make Sense? For the ADJ Accu Spot 250 II's, I'm not entirely sure how to do what your thinking but what I would suggest is to set some scenes and just recall your scenes. Ch. 3 = speed of either the pattern or chase. you need to select this after you select a pattern or chase. ch. 4 = dimmer.. if you don't have the dimmer on full then you wont see any pattern or chase. Not 100% true jingles, you can dim fluorescents with a Sine Wave dimmer, which are very expensive. All light sources emit UV. Nothing has the same effect as fluorescents because fluorescents output a lot of UV do to design. So much so that they are used to sterilize things. All fluorescents have a coating to block UV so it doesn't hurt anyone. Black light fluorescents don't have as strong a coating, allowing save levels of UV out. They are also colored purple because UV has no color...

We have controlled fluorescents with our lighting system by simply changing the dimmer to non-dim mode (it comes on full when the channel is at 50% or more - like a light switch). Would this work in your situation?

Re: black lights
How would this damage the dimmer or the light? We have a neon light on one of our dimmer channels (new ETC rack) and the technician didn't have any problem setting up non-dim channels, plus the dimmers actually have a fluorescent setting on them that does the same thing. For the light, what does it care if the power is "switched on"?
