I'm new to lighting controllers, but I've been an AV tech for many years. I'm setting up my multi-camera flypack in a rehearsal center that has a large stage, and got talked into setting up their lighting truss and pipe grid. So far, so good...but I wanted some feedback on using a Scene Setter 48 to control RGB LED lights in 3-channel mode. I'd like to program it for music concerts, and run it manually for talk shows, etc. (so I can make subtle adjustments to color temperature for proper white balance). Is this the right board for the job? (I hope so...I just bought one) Or is there a better low-cost option? Thanks in advance...

Jingles,

Thanks for your response. I have (4) 3200k fresnels on the truss for front lighting. I'm hanging two ellipsoidals about 25 ft in front of the stage as stationary "followspots" (one aimed at center stage, one aimed further out for when we attach the catwalk extension to the stage). All of these lights are on dimmer packs with assignable DMX addresses, for a total of 6 channels. That would leave 18 channels available for 6 RGB LEDs (in 2x24 double preset mode), or 14 RGB LEDs in 1x48 single preset mode. I'm using a separate ADJ Co-Pilot 8-channel relay for DJ effects, lasers, backlights, etc., so they can be switched on/off easily (without programming the Scene Setter). The primary use of the stage is for videotaping bands. We have the luxury of multiple takes, so we can change the lighting and camera angles at will. My goal is to have a versatile "hands-on" lighting system that's easy to control in real-time. Programs will rarely be used, but it would be handy to have a few stored for quick & dirty gigs, or to save the settings for episodic shows, so they have a consistent look. Any advice is greatly appreciated...
Hi Gene,

ideally the SS48 is not the best board for RGB. there are not consoles really geared for RGB yet, so if you can make those 18 channels worl for you then you will be good to go.
But 18 channels only lets you individually control 6 RGB led pars.
if you get into more led pars or led pars with more than 3 channels you will need to jump into an Show Designer 2
A board that lets you program LED pars as fixtures instead of just individual channels.
James can clue you in on a Compu software that works great.

Best regards,
John....Thanks for your input. I'm hoping that I can make the Scene Setter work for my application. I've verified that the board talks to the individual RGB channels by using the bump buttons, but I haven't figured out how to have real-time control using the dimmers. Do I have to store/program each scene, or can I use it live in real-time?
