In This forum you can discuss tips, tricks, and troubleshooting for Elation's Next Generation Compu Live software, "Compu Show".

Actually old, but very new user of CompuShow. I'm planning on putting together a small mobile lighting rig, and trying to use CompuShow to plan the rig and learn the S/W at the same time (no lights or dongle yet). I was lost the first two days, but Arnoldo's and CompShowTech's youtube videos finally got me going a bit. Many thanks to those guys! Smiler

Some basic (dumb?) questions:

1. How do you enter two identical fixtures that you plan to run on the same DMX channels (to duplicate actions and save channels)? I still want to show them separately in Easy View. An example would be many uplights that will always be the same color.

2. How do you add additional fixtures (or delete one) on a fixture page?

3. I'm trying to use Easy View to plan my config and how it might look, and I can add an object, like truss, and change it's size, but I can't move it's location. Location controls seem to be grayed out even when the object is selected (green). Is this a restriction in "Limited Mode", whatever that is? If I try to import a 3D object, I get a warning message that I can't in "Limited Mode", but I get no such message when trying (unsuccessfully) to move a new object. I can move my fixtures.

4. I'm a little confused about where you get the latest release (or beta's). I plan on getting the Cue Basic dongle, unless that's a bad idea(?)for less than 512 channels.

5. I'm also confused about the best platform to run CS. (Currently using an old XP machine with a fairly high-end 3D graphics card). I'm interested in the usefulness of a touch screen system. Does that work well in Windows 7 ( I assume you can't use Win 8). And do different dongles require 32 or 64 bit Windows 7? I'll probably end up getting a Midicon, thanks to Arnoldo.

Sorry for so many questions at once, but many thanks!!!

Oh, and does anyone else dream about lights after working with CS for hours? I also used to do that after playing in a band with lighting.

hello,

1. How do you enter two identical fixtures that you plan to run on the same DMX channels (to duplicate actions and save channels)? I still want to show them separately in Easy View. An example would be many uplights that will always be the same color.

A. pretty much, if you are going to run all your fixtures the same, the software will see it as one fixture and when you patch it, it will come up as just one. if you want to see it in the 3D visualizer then you would have to add them to the software.

2. How do you add additional fixtures (or delete one) on a fixture page?

A.once you add a fixture you can right click on the fixture page and go into the settings. in the settings you can go into the patch section and add or delete fixtures. also change dmx addressing.

3. I'm trying to use Easy View to plan my config and how it might look, and I can add an object, like truss, and change it's size, but I can't move it's location. A.you need to have an interface plugged into the computer to access the full version of the 3D visualizer. so when you have the interface you will unlock the rest of the functions.

4. I'm a little confused about where you get the latest release (or beta's). I plan on getting the Cue Basic dongle, unless that's a bad idea(?)for less than 512 channels.

A.you can download the latest release of our website. and as far as the compu cue basic, that should be enough for your application. unless you are going to use more than one universe, you should be fine with the basic.

5. I'm also confused about the best platform to run CS. (Currently using an old XP machine with a fairly high-end 3D graphics card). I'm interested in the usefulness of a touch screen system. A.the compu cue basic is 64 and 32 bit drivers. so it should work with any platform. (even windows 8). compu show is compatible with touch screen computers.

You can do this by going into "Construction mode" and in the "Listing" box you can find the "Fixtures" tab. From there you can find the fixture you want multiples of and Right Click to find the "Duplicate" function.

But, I would recommend giving each light its own dmx channel so you have the option to do chases and phasing. Check out this video I made to show what I mean http://youtu.be/Mjj8JD6lvBY
