In This forum you can discuss tips, tricks, and troubleshooting for Elation's Next Generation Compu Live software, "Compu Show".

My current computer is using windows XP. And based on Microsoft putting it to rest I would like to upgrade to Win 7. How will this effect my current version of compushow? I a currently using Compushow Beta\suite2. Will is have to reinstall? Will I have to build everything from scratch or can I import my current configurations?

Also, I keep rewriting over the same show because I do not know how to import my current patch and instrument profiles to a new show? Can someone help me with this process?

Many thanks

hi David, you will have to reinstall the program on your Windows 7 computer yes, but that shouldn't be a problem. and all you really need is the saved .shw file from your XP computer. It is very simple, just go to your C drive and open the compu show folder and then find your .shw file that you named your show in the program and then simply take that file and put it back into the compu show folder on the Win 7 machine and import it and it should load up just fine.
to find the import function, please check out the user manual that's available to download from the Compu Show software product page.
If you need anything else, please let me know.
Hi David, try going to the pages tab, then you see the export and import functions. You'll want to export whatever pages you want and then open a new show file (see the Compu Show user manual for doing this) and then import your pages. NOTE: it is not possible to export a master page.

OR one other way is to copy the actual .shw file and then re name it, open it and tweak as needed.

Does this all make sense?
I have a group I regularly work with now, and when I program their new/next show, I simply copy the previous show, rename that directory, then delete what I don't want. It takes seconds and then I launch CompuShow and there it is.

I think it's like C:\compushow\_datlight or something like that. You can also do this with the scan library and other other things when moving from one computer to another. While you're at it, move your files using a USB flash drive so you have a hot back-up at the same time. In case something goes belly up on you, now your back-up is conveniently located!

CAUTION: Do so at your own risk. I haven't had a problem yet!
