Hi,
Currently I am running 4 Design Spot 250s and an assortment of Elation LED fixtures on CompuLive 06. I often find myself getting to a gig and spending an hour or more adjusting the X/Y and Focus channels for EACH DS250 in EVERY (50+) scene using these lights. I adjust the X/Y so that when the beams hit the floor at THAT venue it hits the right performer. I adjust the Focus so that the gobo is clear (focused) at that [new] location. I would like to know if there is a way to adjust one DS250's X/Y and Focus values across multiple scenes.

On a completely different subject, it would be really convenient if I could customize the right-click function (when right clicking on a scene) to change from the stock "temporarily activate" action. Ideally, I would like to customize it so that when I right click a scene, it FADES to that scene and stays there (i.e. scene is still active after I release the right button). Is this at all possible with any version of this software? I will gladly pay for it! I say this b/c right now I have double the amount of scenes I would like just b/c sometimes I want to fade to RED+BLUE, and sometimes I just want to "punch" (no fade) to RED+BLUE. Therefore, I have had to create two scenes (one fade and one non-fade) for every color combination I want. I realize I can create an infinite number of scenes with CompuLive, but it sure does eat up a lot of precious real estate on my monitors having all those redundant scenes.

Any help on these two issues will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Brian

hey matchless. to answer your first question no there is no focus or position palette on compu live currently. we are pushing the developers to make this feature work but as of right now.
And the second question that is a good idea but i dont think it is implemented to the software. ill forward that idea along to the developers. ill get back to you. sincerely,
Ok matchless i forwarded your ideas to one of the offices and they liked the right click idea and are sending it out to the developers. And about the X-Keys i believe the software can accept any character input to any button, so if the x-keys can work as a conventional keyboard that outputs letters, numbers, symbols, accents, ETC then yes they should be compatible. about the palette they said they have a work around for positioning palettes and its not pretty but it works. once i got it ill share the info. Thanks! Sincerely,
There is a way to do fade/no fade using the Midi controller. You can either do it with the virtual controller on the screen, or have an external one. Unfortunately you cannot use a single button to turn the fade on and off with the virtual board, you will have to use 2 buttons, or one of the faders on the board. You can use one button for On/off using the external board because it will latch when you press the button.

To set this up... 1. launch the midi controller on the screen. 2. If you are using buttons, right click on the fade off button, click the white new command button on the center right of the screen, on the drop down menu select "page", then "enable/disable the dimmer function". You will then want to choose selected page, or name of the page you want it to work on. Finally select v>Level under type of action and set the V1 number to 1. Repeat the steps for the on button, but select V<Level.

If you want to use a fader, go through the same steps but select Level>v>2Level under type of action.

This works great on snapping to scenes without a fade, especially if you use the external console.

If you need more help, just let me know.

Justin,
Thanks for that info. I was able to get it working with the MIDI controller. Unfortunately, it actually takes longer to switch b/n fade on/fade off using the MIDI controller than it does to just find the fade-equivalent scene I already have created. It's actually more clicks using the internal MIDI controller. I realize the external controller is probably the best way to go. Unless there was a way to assign a trigger key to the fade channel I just created on the MIDI controller. Then I'd really be cookin' with gas!

Anyway, thanks again for your help!

Brian
Yeh, I know what you are saying. Most of the time during faster, upbeat songs, I use the virtual controller to turn off the fade times and back on for slower stuff. Unfortunately there is no way to trigger it with the keys. I am going to order the external controller soon, as that is a clearly the best way to it. I just thought using it would allow you to clean up some buttons on your screen.
Justin,
You're right...it would clean up the screen as far as scene buttons go, but then I'm adding a controller on the screen. The bottom line though is that it slows down the overall execution of a "fade-in" scene.

Which controller are you going with? How much will it cost you?

I already have a DMX Operator 192, but I doubt that would work as an external MIDI controller.

Have you ever seen the x-keys controllers?

Don't know if this is helpful but here goes.

I use the BCF2000 and Compu06. To control dimmers I have a 'always clicked' switch that only controls the dimmer for the channel I want. Then I hook that switch up to my MIDI controller on a fader. When I move the fader on the BCF2000 the lights move accordingly since the button is 'always clicked' in the software.

We do this on a couple of different things (chase speed on knobs [always clicked switch], but clicking the knob invokes the chase[NON-always clicked switch]). We do have a section of buttons/switches on the screen that are "only for BCF200 control purposes" and are to be STAYED AWAY FROM during performance!

It's working quite well. Now if I could only figure a way to but X & Y controls for a moving head 250 on the knobs of the BCF2000 I'd be golden but it has been elusive!

Hope this helps.
You can use the board to control dimmers/channels without making an always on switch by using the general output option. This bypasses the program and puts dmx out to that channel.

Here is how to put the X/Y control on the knobs. You make an always on switch for pan and one for tilt and put a fader on them. You can then assign the knob to control that fader.
