Have a small lighting rig I've been running with the DMX Operator for a couple years now with 4 Martin SCX-500s, 5 LED P54s, spectrum LEDs, and a Chauvet Moonflower (and spots, of course) for a small venue.
I felt like I was kinda peaked with what I could do with those, and, out of the blue, my friend hooked me up with the owner of this brand new "club" that needed somebody to run their rediculous lighting part time. You can view a full description of the venue on my site (http://www.plusvibes.com/building-24/) with some pics.
They have 24 moving heads. I am not even sure what they are specifically, maybe the Design Spot 575Es? Someone said they were 750s but I can't find info on those. Maybe someone can decipher from the pics?
Anywho, there's 24 moving heads & 12 LEDs for splash built into trussing on the ceiling of this club! It's a serious upgrade and just what I was looking for. I am super excited to start creating my own scenes, shows, chases, & presets now that I've run them (on their SD3) a few times (for world class DJs such as Skribble, Sat-One, Enferno, & Riz). I think I'm ready now to do more than just push buttons, LOL.
My question is: Where do I begin? Is it practical to start teaching myself to program stuff using the console? Is it much harder than using your laptop with some sort of virtual creation software? I know there is that option to control via laptop with a dongle, correct? Is it possible to get software (for cheap or free) to do it at home and save it on the CF card and then load them in?
I'm sooo new to this controller but I am very eager to learn everything I can? I had read something about an instructional DVD or something besides the user manual? (I have the manual but am so much better learning from seeing people do it!)
Please contact me either email (chris at plusvibes dotcom) or reply to this if you think you could give me some tips.
My lighting "style" is to try to change up scenes in relation to the beats and not to just let it do it on its own with factory or already programmed shows. I like to personalize it a bit.
One problem I am having is that now 1 time in every show, either all or a sporadic group of the movers stop shining their beams for no apparent reason (or maybe something I am doing). I have full control of them and they still move in their patterns, but no light. The shudder & everything is open and on, and even tried the blackout hold down to cancel anything I was doing, but it takes me turning all the movers' breakers off (climbing through 500-1000 people to get to the fuse closet) waiting a little then turning them back on and then they take a while but slowwwwly fade back on sporadically and it's fine. It's like a curse! What am I doing? Firmware issue maybe? Is there a way to reset them from the controller instead of climbing through all those people?
Anyway, that's it for now. I thank you in advance for any help you may provide!
