pc dmx lighting control system

I am looking for information on how the pc dmx lighting conrol system can be used to control the lighting effects for a living christmas tree. Our present board was a leviton mlc128r --went out this last Christmas... I am looking to replace with the pc controller. Is there a church using this system for a living christmas tree? Also, how would I go about setting up the system to run the lights to the music?
