Hey everyone! I just wanted to share with the lighting community my setup to use my iPod Touch to control my Show Designer 2 remotely.
Items required:
1 Show Designer 2
1 iPhone or iPod Touch
1 PC w/ SERIAL port
1 Null Modem Cable
Directions:
Install the SD2 PC Monitor Software onto the PC. Then install RealVNC onto the PC. Be sure to set it up as a Server and have it start in Service Mode. Choose a password for extra security. Also be sure to open port 5900 on the PC's firewall. (Opening and forwarding port 5900 to that PC on your router will allow you to control the SD2 from outside your actual network.)
Connect the Null Modem Cable from the PC's serial port to the port on the back of the SD2.
Onto your iPod or iPhone, install the iSSH/VNC app ($4.99) or the Mocha VNC Lite app (FREE), both available in the App Store, and configure a connection to the IP Address of your PC on port 5900.
Now connect to your PC from your iPhone/iPod using the VNC app that you downloaded and run the SD2 Monitor program.
Now you can tap your way through the menus of that program, pull up your list of Scenes, and simply by tapping on your iPod screen you can control your lights remotely.
Hopefully someone else finds this useful. Happy lighting!
Brian
