how do you record video like that?

I too like to build rigs for fun(hoping one day the band i work for makes it to the arena) I'll post a screen shot when i get back to my Compu laptop

I use two programs. one is built into compu live. the other is a screen capture program. what i do is set up my camera angels in the 3D movie recorder function and adjust my fade times. Then i use a program called fraps.

and then i hit record on fraps for my 3D screen and then hit play for my camera playback and that's how I do my videos.

i didnt know that i could control the light beams in 3D. I think in that pic above(im not on compu laptop at the moment) about half the rig is at half intensity

so just as i try out your less fog advice, my 3D stopped working. Everything is there, but nothing is responding to my commands. All my master dimmers are up and what not. Any idea why this is happening?

Nope. turn the fog back on and see what happens? which version date does it say for both compu software and 3D?

got it working, just had to restart a couple of times.

love that fog setting, makes it look completely different.

i just watched your first video again. what fixtures are those led panels on the upstage?

oh those are a matrix of generic RGB led panels I modified the size of to fit the truss. The back video led wall is the same profile just LOTS more haha.

how did you modify the size RGB panels? i cant seem to figure it out.

it's in the profile creator.

Click on the part in the red circle where it tells you what type of fixture it is. now it will let you adjust the L,W,H of the fixture in cm.

hey jingles - i have recently been having trouble with the visualizer again. It would just freeze whenever loading. So i saved all my work, un installed and deleted everything. Then after installing the visualizer would work with the demo stage but when i try to load some of my of my shows, it freezes again.

any suggestions?

Hey dunn. Ya try lowering the resolution to medium. Turn shadows off and don't use high res objects such as the bass player and the people 3D objects that are colored in. What is the version date if your 3D?

the files in question have nothing in the .evs file but 80 generic rgb fixtures

What are your computers specs? Like ram video card processor and operating system.
Oh. I don't think fraps would do that to your 3D. Unless it is running by default when you boot windows.

Well I found one issue that may or may not effect the lag. I noticed that on your fantasy box stage which is a cool truss layout by the way that you have truss above the selected height in your stage settings. You need to make sure your dimensions are correct with the amount of space your using. for example say on one of my stages my height was 20 feet but if i place truss above 20 feet it is not viewable unless you view outside the area of your stage or you make the walls invisible by selecting no walls. This could confuse the 3D program as you have objects on X, Y, and Z axis's that do not exist in your plot space that you set up in the stage settings.
I Also notice this same problem on the LEDbox 3 stage. Also keep in mind that a lot of led panels set up as a matrix can take sometime to load. My led wall you see in my videos takes about a good minute or so to load and i have a good graphic card.

Yup same problem with all 3 of your files. your space is smaller than what you are actually using.

that looks awesome. I am starting to think my computer cant handle doing big 3-d projects like this. so im gonna start a new stage with a lot less going on and try to make a video like this. i will share as i get going

even after trying much smaller rigs, my 3d visualizer has so much lag. It seems that once i go over having 12 fixtures, i have a considerable lag. What are the recommended video/memory requirements to run the 3D

Lots of RAM and at Least a 512mb dedicated video card. I have a quad core desktop with 6gb ram and a nvidia Geforce GTs 240 1024mb card in it.

i guess that could be why i am having problems.

Im thinking about upgrading to 4 gigs of memory and of which i can allocate an addition 325 mg to the video card. This should make the 3D run better right?

It SHOULD but I am not a computer repairman so my guess is as good as yours. all I know is a dedicated chipset for graphics is better than integrated graphics which I THINK yours are.

is there a way to group objects? for example: i created a square grid out of truss objects. this grid is is flat on the stage. I want to be able to rotate the group as whole to make the square look like a diamond. then i want to raise the diamond off the stage but have the downstage corner higher that the up stage corner of the diamond. Is there a way to do this with out placing each side of the diamond individually?

No. Your gonna have to do that one piece by piece.

i thought that was going to be your answer. I cant seems to get the angles to look right when i do this individually. Oh well, guess i will try something a little different

i think i am done(no pun intended) with compulive.

after spending 10+ hours designing a rig to potentially go on tour with, compu and the visualizer crashed yet again. I have done the usual steps of saving my work else where, uninstalling, deleting program files and re installed. It continues to crash and the 3D takes just as long if not longer to load then before. I really like this program and have gotten really comfortable with it but it is so aggravating to invest so much time in something just for it to crash out of no where. Ive been getting some different offers from other touring bands but they want to see what i can design for them and this program was great for that. But i cant continue to work with something that consistently craps out.

In addition to the 3D problems, it seems like every other show i do with my band, i get the "Computerized Lighting Control has stopped working" message. This also happens a lot when i save and open different show files.

So, I am gonna try the whole uninstall/reinstall process. If that doesn't work, I will have to find different software to do 3D stuff and eventually get a new controller.

Which compu live version date are you on?
