When using the macros of the rotating prism on one of my Desgin Spot 250s, I hear a grinding noise coming from the fixture. It sounds like when something is spinning that is out of balance. I don't hear it when using just the rotating gobos, it is only with the prism macros. Is there something that needs to be tightened?

the prism needs to be lubricated ( along with the gobos) periodically (once or twice a year depending on use) the prism utilizes a "ball bearing" type of design. You can use regular 90wt automtive gear oil to lubricate the gobos and prism. Use a syringe type aplicator and oil the diameter of the prism. this should eliminate any noise. If not please call elation service for further help.thank you

Gines,

Is it possible that a new unit right out of the box would need oiled?
I am one of those who reads the manual from cover to cover. The cleaning and maintenance section of the manual makes no mention of anything other than frequent cleaning. It also states that there are no serviceable parts inside the fixture with the exception of the lamp. It is a good thing you brought this to my attention. Is there any documentation on opening the unit and oil points?
