Design Spot 250 rotating prism noise

Contacted Elation Support. They advised me to return the unit.

the prism needs to be lubricated ( along with the gobos) periodically (once or twice a year depending on use) the prism utilizes a "ball bearing" type of design.You can use regular 90wt automtive gear oil to lubricate the gobos and prism. Use a syringe type aplicator and oil the diameter of the prism. this should eliminate any noise. If not please call elation service for further help.thank you

Is it possible that a new unit right out of the box would need oiled?
I am one of those who reads the manual from cover to cover. The cleaning and maintenance section of the manual makes no mention of anything other than frequent cleaning. It also states that there are no serviceable parts inside the fixture with the exception of the lamp. It is a good thing you brought this to my attention. Is there any documentation on opening the unit and oil points?

Has anyone else experienced noise with the rotating prism? I have had problems with 3 out of 5 new units. Has anyone oiled the prism and gobos who can advise how and where to apply the oil?
