2 - Elation Design Spot 250 Pro
Each has Phillips 250/2 lamp
Fixtures are new out of the box last year.
Just a few hours of lamp usage.
Hung upside down.
One 20A mains circuit for power for each fixture.
Mains power is always on.
Each fixture has correct DMX address assigned, no conflicts.

On board settings for Lamp Control:
Lamp ON or OFF – OFF
Automatic La-ON - ON
Lamp On via DMX - ON
Lamp Off via DMX - ON
Lamp Off No DMX - 1 min
Lamp On at Temp - 45C
Lamp Off at Temp - 130C

Show Designer 2 console is used. Last scene in Shows is one where the DS250s are sent a Lamp Off (60) to each. The console is then turned off. The first scene in all shows sends a Lamp On (40) to each. Now to my issue...

Even after 45 mins neither lamp strikes. If I send a manual strike signal each will strike but by the time the lamp seems to be at full intensity, each goes off.

When I manually send an OFF, then I wait at least 15 mins, then send ON, they may strike and if they do they only stay on until the lamp approaches full brightness.

Before we put the fixtures up we used them for a few weeks on the floor. We would power off the units. When powered on before service the lamps wouldn't always strike. I usually had to do a fixture menu Lamp On. They would then stay on.

What setting am I missing here??!!

Jeffery, thanks. I did try that but it didn't work. My solution was to turn off the circuit breakers for the DS250pros and turn them back on 30 secs later. BAM! They did their startup routine and within 5 mins the lamps struck!

I'm a bit perturbed that there was nothing in the manual that says these must be powered off if not in use for a few days. Now I must pay more to add a switch in our Worship Center that is between the breakers and the outlets because these two circuits are in an attic room that isn't readily accessible. I could have planned this months ago.

My exascerbation is now replaced with elation (pun intended) as I have working fixtures.
The lesson to all others just learning about the new types of instruments and their usage and care is to be aware of and practice removing power from them unless the manufacturer states otherwise.

"Consistent operational breaks may ensure that the fixture will function properly for many years to come." — Elation Professional Design Spot 250 Pro manual, Rev 04/28/2008 - Visage, downloaded from the product page and included in the packaging.

This is the only statement in the manual remotely related to cutting power to the Elation Design Spot 250. It is quite vague, in fact it uses the verb "may". No addenda was included in the packaging stating the unit must be powered off between usages. While implied, no warning was given that leaving power on between usages will severely limit the life of the machine.

Contrast that with the Elation support person who stated to me that power should be turned off on this type of instrument to prevent the problem I had and to prevent rapid wear on the unit's components. If this is a known issue then the point was not made in the instructions provided.

Just frustrated that I didn't learn the lesson ealier. I did my best to learn as much as possible ahead of time and that my installer didn't insist that the power disconnect happen. Thanks for letting me vent.
