I will set up my question by letting you know what I have first

Stage Setter 8 DMX controlled
4 American DJ P36 LED pars
ordered 2 Microh Stage pars (also 36's) with thoughts to ordering 2 more

I am really new to DMX and while it seems to have great capabilities it is a little difficult to grasp for someone as new as I am to this.

So I understand that my SS8 has channels as labeled and if the Am.DJ pars receive red on channel 1 then I get red when I bring those up. But according to the Microh pars manual (which I read online) they are set to recieve dimming on channel 1 and red on channel 2, green on 3 and blue on 4 etc. I do want to eventually learn to set the lights on different channels so that I can isolate them, but for now I don't mind controlling all the lights at once. It would a appear that if I make no adjustments, and just plug all the lights in, that when I bring up channel 2 on the SS8, my Am.DJ pars will be Green and the Microh's will be Red.

I would like to know how to set up my rig so that I can get all red or green or blue or whatever from all the pars at one time. I am guessing that I will either have to set up the lights so that they receive the same signal to do the same thing or separate them so that I can bring up the reds on the Am.DJ pars using one fader, and the reds on the Micropars with a different fader.

Either way is fine, this is all just very confusing to me I appreciate any help that anyone can offer. Also if this post belongs in a different forum please move and just let me know, I was debating putting it under Basic Controlling but thought that might be for controllers and setting up chases and scenes.

You know im not sure if the stage setter 8 is right for you and your lights. sure it will work fine but you are already having issues due to the limitations on the board. perhaps move up to a dmx operator 192? or sticking with your current controller you can address all the adj pars the same starting on address 1 but then address the microh stuff at a starting address of say 7. but for individual control you do not have enough channels on the SS8.
Welcome to the forums.
P.s. are these the only lights you are using?
Sincerely,
Thanks Jim, yes these are the only lights I am using, a pretty simple setup. I am new to this, so I would set the dip switches on the back of the microhs so that they receive on a different channel? perhaps 7 as you suggested? If I did this what faders on the SS8 would I use to bring up the different colours on the different lights?

Also is there a chart that would show how I set the dip switches on the different lights to set them to receive different channels from the SS8?
I read that manual earlier today, I just checked out the dip-switch calculator. So now my question is this, What is the significance of the DMX address and the increment values? If I have all the lights set up and connected with DMX cables and lets say I have all the American DJ lights set with dipswtich 1 on, which according to the calculator is address 1. If I want to control all of those lights together do I have to worry about the increments? And then if I wanted to set the DMX address for the Microh pars to 7 the calculator says to put dip-switches 1, 2 and 3 to the on position. So what does this mean? that now fader 7 acts as channel 1 for all of the microh pars that i have set to this address? I know this is probably basic stuff to those who understand. If I instead chose to use address 9 and set the SS8 in 2X8 mode would faders 1-8 control the American DJ pars and 9 - 16 control the Mocroh pars?

Thanks again for all the help on my journey to enlightenment
