I want to control 8 par cans (through Dp-DMX 20L dimmers) 2 Powerspot 250's and 8 Stage color fixtures. The operator Pro looks like it would be easier to operate, because it has an assigned area for the par cans. But, the Show Designer 1 seems to have many more features. If I get the Show Designer 1 can I permanently assign the par cans to the controllers so that they area available virtually all the time ? What would be the pro's and con's of each board. Trained students will be operating this equipment most the time.

hey spurr! now i dont exactly know the show designer series so im just giving you an educated GUESS! ok? lol but if u assign the pars to a set address on any console they will always be there on those channels. also on the DMX op. pro yes there is a assigned side just for pars but at the same time on the show designer if u have the pars addressed on a fixture button then they will be there when u need em and you should be able to adjust them on the fly. hope this helps. and welcome to the forums! sincerely,
Hi Spurr,
Basically what you need to understand is this...right now all lighting systems are moving to DMX for control, but not every control that is DMX is the right console.

Operator Pro is a dual purpose console.. for intelligent lighting and for conventional lighting.. where the Power Spot 250's are intelligent and the par cans are conventional.
The operator pro does not have as many features as the Showdesigner 1 on the intel side, and also its not as easy to program.

Show Designer 1 is a great board geared mainly to intelligent lighting. will not work well combining intells with par cans unless all your par cans will be doing is chasing.

The best of both worlds would be the SD3...

Best regards,
