Hi all,

I have a DS250 that is giving me tilt problems. I have already checked wiring to see if anything has been cut, and sensors seem to be functioning properly. It is leading me to either the motor malfunctioning or to the driver chip itself being bad.

The motor itself is jumping and making lots of noise trying to get to home position, but not moving properly. Of course nothing is binding the belt and with the motor off the head moves freely, so there is nothing blocking movement.

My question is this: What is the best way to test the motors other than swapping one out? I've read resistance checks can do well. What would the correct resistance of these tilt motors be?

Also, as an aside, I've noticed that several of my DS250 units (long hours on all) are starting to drift when moving the tilt. The movements aren't precise and seem to fade to a stop rather than popping to position like they once were. Is this an indication of a stepper motor starting to go bad? If I replace the motors in the units will this solve the issue?

hello, it does sound like a stepper motor since you have checked everything else. typically i would recommend physically rotating the stepper motor. it should be smooth. if it has a resistance to it or if it feels "notchy" then it is bad. Measuring the resistance wont always tell you if it is bad.

I have an issue with a dsp 250 unit with same problem...

I was able to isolate it to the tilt positioning sensor. It was just out of alignment and would pick up the pulses some times and then miss them and vice versa .. causing the tilt to be movements to be extremely "jerky"

I originally thought it was the stepper motor myself... but the movement felt even through the motor itself
