I've been slammed recently with the shows I've been working on.
For those not e-stalking me, I was using MyDMX. Due to issues I had with myDMX, it was deemed necessary to ugprade. I therefore upgraded to Compu Show and an SD+ interface. Despite the high learning curve, I managed to program 2 complete shows, where were in turn going to be slaved to timecode.
All I can say is that the end results were nothing short of flawless. There were only two major errors: The first was the fact that through learning, I improved my scene making process as I progressed. But, I did leave a scene alone that I should have re-visited, so the timing was off. Since I didn't slice and dice the steps of that scene into sepparate chunks. it was not fixable within the environment I was in. My error, NOT Compu Show. The other error was that on the show itself, the director had a computer glitch and the timecode generating machine had a minor problem and the recovery, while click, was complicated due to panicing by the director. Compu Show performed flawlessly, tracking all proper time changes without as much as a hiccup.
The only other issues were miscommunications in timing for certain scenes and some last second spotlight color changes. These are all human issues.
Now the bad side: This may be my last show with them. Some internal stuff within the organization is pissing me off and I don't really feel like being involved with it. I have time to think about this though. I did specifically buy Compu Show for these shows, so I'm kind of torn. But the Coompu Show purchase was still a wise business purchase.
All I'm gonna say is that Compu Show is well worth it, especially if you're willing to put inthe time to properly learn it. It's not for beginniners, but a beginner could certainly handle this with some training and the mindset of being determined to learn the software.
